Question

sure ... no angles from the back, side or top (not even reflected in the units underneath) so it's not clear where the springboards go into it (or how). why so curious? because the unanswered question of infra-red is up in the air when you start to think that the charger connection (not necessarily the cradle - how would you charge a visor solo?), the springboard slot and the infra-red(?) have to be back there somewhere.

so i'm curious!! :^)

Doesn't the Visor run on AAA's? if it does then doesn't that mean we can't charge it in the cradle?

I'm not all that impressed with the design itself. Looks like a rehash of the Palm III design with new buttons. I'm not saying the design is bad necessarily, just not impressive considering it already exists.

And yes, I would imagine the AAA batteries will mean no recharge in the cradle.

I think there is probably some merit in staying with a design that the buying public has decided is a good compromise between size and capability. So, I don't think the lack of a "breakthrough" design is necessarily bad.
The big news is the big chunk of RAM (compared to my Palm V), the low price (again, comparatively), and the Springboard slot. The slot holds the promise of retaining good usability after the next new flashy model comes out. I can't wait to see what some of the 3rd party folks come up with to fully utilize that slot.
So, all in all, I'm excited enough about the Visor to have ordered mine via the phone today. It will be most interesting to see Palm Computing's marketing strategy now that the Visor has been announced. I don't think the marketplace will give them much time to get their act together.

Exclamation

In the ZDNET article, they explain that the IR port is on the side of the unit, as the Springboard slot is where the IR port is on the Palm devices. Essentially, imagine a GameBoy cartridge slot, that is the springboard.

Thumbs up

I like what I see. I have a PalmIIIx and wish the buttons were concave-like so I could hit them with the stylus. It looks like the Visor has that, good.

How about a scroll wheel on the left side of the unit where the thumb on the left-hand usually resides. I noticed this on the WinCE models and thought it was quite nice.

Also, will Visor have something like the hack-extension that shows your stylus strokes in the display area? WinCE also has this nice feature.

At least Visor is using the fantastic DateBk3 app, only I bought it already. Now they need is to incorporate BackupBuddy, DiddlePad, AvantGo, wireless access, Solitaire, and TopSecret. That isn't too much to ask is it?
