Question

Dear all,

Which hack program would you recommend for prism? Tealmaster, hackmaster or X-master? Also, which hack do you use on your prism?

hackmaster

Hackmaster is working for me, but the icons (about and settings) next to each hack in the list are trashed. This is a color issue and it happens on the IIIc too. Perfectly usable, though.

Unhappy problem with Prism & Xmaster

I had Xmaster loaded on my new Prism and it was working ok with my one and only hack (Lefty). But then when I tried to sync I got a "fatal exception" message and had to reset. This happened twice before I saw this message at the Linkesoft site:
"Note: There seem to be problems with X-Master on Visors, specifically the Visor Prism. We are currently investigating the problem. Meanwhile, please do not install X-Master on a Visor. Sorry for any inconvenience."

Guess Xmaster is a wait and see as far as Prism is concerned. I deleted it for now, of course.

TealMaster

I was having occasional crashes with TealEcho and Hackmaster (yes, even with 2.20 updated for the Prism). I've been using TealMaster since beta 0.97 (about 1 1/2 weeks) with no problems. I've got a 8MB flash module that I keep in all the time. I'm running QuickBits and the following hacks:

Status Pri Name
On 3 FindHack 3.0
On 3 Keyb+Graffiti 1.0
On 3 McPhling 1.07
On 2 MiddleCapsHack 2.6
Off 3 ScreenShot 1.4
On 3 StayOff 2.6
On 4 SymbolHack 1.0
On 3 TealEcho 2.20
Off 3 TealLens 2.10

This list was created by TealMaster. It is one of the three reports that can be copied to the clipboard.

The Pri refers to the Priority. You can set the order in which hacks are patched into the OS.

HackMaster was the first piece of Palm shareware I registerd, back in October of 2000. TealSoft, and TealMaster in particular, earn my 'Shareware of the Month' award for February. The prize, of course, being registration

Here are the other two reports for completeness (blank line separates them):
$A08E SysAppLaunch()
3 - McPhling
$A0A9 SysHandleEvent()
2 - MiddleCapsHack
3 - StayOff
4 - SymbolHack
$A0B2 SysSleep()
3 - StayOff
$A121 EvtProcessSoftKeyStroke()
3 - McPhling
$A126 EvtEnQueuePenPoint()
2 - MiddleCapsHack
3 - TealEcho
$A132 EvtEnableGraffiti()
3 - Keyb+Graffiti
$A143 FldGrabFocus()
2 - MiddleCapsHack
$A1AF InsPtCheckBlink()
3 - TealEcho
$A219 WinEraseRectangle()
3 - TealEcho
$A220 WinDrawChars()
3 - TealEcho
$A269 Find()
3 - FindHack
$A281 GrfSetState()
2 - MiddleCapsHack
$A292 GrfProcessStroke()
2 - MiddleCapsHack
$A2E2 SysKeyboardDialog()
2 - MiddleCapsHack
3 - Keyb+Graffiti
4 - SymbolHack
$A2EF PhoneNumberLookup()
3 - FindHack

Installed Extensions: 9
Active Extensions: 7
Active Patches: 20
Stolen Patches:
None

There are also preferences for keeping hacks from being deleted by external apps (no more HackDelHack) and for counting down to a re-enabling hacks on a reset. You can select 5,4,3,2,1 or manual (must hit button, like hackmaster to re-enable hacks).

It also allows you to have 4 different configurations of hacks that can be switched between by tapping one of the four tabs (A, B, C, D).

And, of course, the icons are displayed properly.

Overall, I'm very happy with it.

Why should anyone need to change from Hackmaster to any other hack program?

Is there any advantage to one over the other?

XMaster has now been fixed and can work on all Visors.

Jschaff, Hackmaster is a great program, but Edward Keyes the creator doesn't seem to offer anymore support for it.

For one thing, Hackmaster has a few bugs:

1. Try this: Do a soft reset and launch Hackmaster. On the 15th launch, Hackmaster will crash your Palm/Visor. This is a known bug with Hackmaster which has not been fixed.

2. Hacks installed on Hackmaster need to be deactivated before you can delete them otherwise bad things will happen.

3. There is no built-in delete function within Hackmaster to delete hacks.

XMaster and a few other newer hack management utilities have attempted to fix these shortcomings.
