Lightbulb I want to make...

I have a VDx and Vphone. I had trouble with the headset jack, I suppose because I insert / remove the headset frequently. (Fortunately, it was still under warranty, so I got it replaced for free.) So I came up with the idea of making a little extension, so I can disconnect the headset without causing wear and tear on the phone jack.

So my question is, where might I find jacks and plugs to construct such a thing ? What size plug do I need ? I tried to check www.radioshack.com, but they seem to have taken their parts page offline for some reason.

Thanks in advance !

If you take the device to the nearest Shack, they can get you set up in pretty quick order. Bring the headset as well.

Now, if I were doing this, I would buy a cheap device or cord with a right-angle jack the size I need to plug into the VisorPhone- the right angle plug will allow the extension you are making to lay closer to the unit rather than sticking straight out.

Cut off whatever is on the other end and solder it to a new female jack of the size you need.

OK, I'll give them a shot. They seem to carry a lot less parts than they used to, so I didn't know if it'd be worth the trip.

You should need a 2.5mm mini plug and the same sized jack.
Just use some phono (also know as RCA cable or audio cable)
to connect the plug and jack.

Thumbs up

As it turns out, it wasn't worth the trip. They carry a 2.5mm plug, but not a 2.5 mm jack... Go figure.

Any other sources ?

Go back to the Shack (or Long's drugs, or a hardware store, etc.) Pick up the 2.5mm plug and a 2.5mm headphone extension cable. Lop off the length you want (starting at the jack end) and attach the plug to get what you need.
