The rumor mill has ground to a halt.

You guys must be slipping. Haven't you seen the Handspring website? The last month has had a note about Jeff speaking at Comdex. Doesn't this sound like a nice place to announce new models?

Also another hint in the newsletter I received today. First they talk about tips on how to use the Treo then they mention that next week "good things come in small packages" something or other.

Sounds like we are going to get a TREO really soon and probably a color model in a smaller package.

This goes more in line with how Handspring does things. They don't announce models they are not going to have for 6 months and they like to surprise everyone.

What do you think?

Well, if you mean VC, I concur -- I sent in a Visor-related press release quite a while ago with no mention on the site. (I also sent samples before that, hoping for a review, but no luck there either.)

Actually, it's "Big things in a very small package" which sounds to me like an impressive springboard module. Perhaps an updated presenter-to-go with the projector built into the module? Or a webserver module?

the "big things in small packages" is in the Treo Talk section, and it is nothing more than a reference to the small size and large functionality of the Treo.

On the other hand, a simple rearrangement of the words "Handspring Comdex" yields the phrase MAC GOD REND XP SHIN, clearly showing that his Hawkinsness shall form a most holy alliance with his Steveness, and that together they shall smite down the evil XP, by releasing the Handspring SHIN, a device with all the functionality of XP in the palm of your hand, and instead of Windows' evil propriatory formats and ads, there will be Apple propriatory formats and ads.

Yes, that's better. The Handspring SHINeo, the first handhelp running OS X with Palm OS compatibility, 32MB, 300mhz Strongarm.

Only because it had better graphics and was faster than the C-64!

That's a bit of an understatement. How many home computers do you know of that could display 4,096 colors in 1987? The Amiga was actually originally conceived as a gaming platform, but evolved into a computer during devlopment.

Ahem. The former Amiga user in me couldn't let that slip by

As for the rumour mill grinding to a halt, I think the hardcore rumour-mongers were decided it's not worth it after all the weeks of speculation over Staples employee newsletters and the "Ace" and "Columbia" resulted in nothing more than the capable but not very exciting (or innovative) Neo & Pro.

Plus, with the improvements Sony continues to make to the Clie line it almosts feels like people are expecting to be disappointed again by Handspring's next color offering (assuming there is one), and only waiting to make sure before they switch over.

Why? "I'm not dead ..." "Yes you are!" "I got better ..."

While I liked my Amiga, I had a lot of trouble with it, to a point where anytime I turned it on for about a year it meant several hours of fighting just to get it to work (eventually traced to bad ram chips added to an external harddrive). I understand it's still in use, as the guy I sold it to turned it over to his stepson.
