Nor is the Platinum. Both were discontinued soon after the release of the Neo and Pro. This was announced some time ago.

You can purchase refurbished Deluxes for around $99.00 though. They are available from HandSpring.

Refurbished Unit

I bought one of the Refurbished Visor Deluxes. I looks like a brand new one--I am very impressed, for $99 you can't beat it.

Fry's has some refurbs left. Add a 2 year instant exchange performance gaurantee warrantee and your in business.

I figure my VDX will stop working after they sell out of them and I'll swap it for a Neo or whatever is the going thing then.

Just curious, is there much difference between a VDX and a Neo? I couldn't see much difference in them.

They seem very close in most ways, but the Neo is reported to be noticeably faster. Of course, it has the newer OS, but that may be the extent of the differences.

Neo vs. Deluxe

The Neo has everything in common with the Platinum....faster processor, Palm OS 3.5h, and the addition of a fast lookup feature that is a Handspring innovation.

The VDX is slower, and uses Palm OS 3.1 which can be an issue for networking and communications related software. The memory is the same, and the core apps are all the same, so functionally the VDX is similar to the late Platinum and new Neo; the case size is identicle.

late in the game

I really have just started to learn about these PDAs. I think the Visor is an awesome product. I have been a bit surprised at the talk I have seen on the boards about Handspring possibly moving out of the organizer business and more into wireless. I think the PDA is an excellent extention of my computer, and the closest thing you can get to "pocket brain". It would be a shame to see this product go by the wayside--I hope they stay with it.

I agree - I absolutely adore my orange deluxe. It's a F-A-S-T little beast - they reportedly eliminated wait states in this unit, and it really shows in its zippy navigation around the system.

That's what I like most about it, plus the fact that it's rock-solid, has no quality problems, and has *excellent* graffiti recognition - by far the best on any Palm OS device I've ever tried. This includes the 505/500, IIIc, and the new Sony T615. The first Clie (710 I believe) had great recognition, but I just didn't like that unit.

I think I'm gonna go grab an Eyemodule 2 today - I think there'll be nothing like always having a camera with you, for those impromptu snaps of things that you just come across throughout your day.

I was wondering how much people use modules with their visors? I was thinking about getting a chess module. I found a nice leather case for my visor at staples on clearance, nice zipper compartment to put xtra batteries into.

I have 5 modules now, of which I use one for the most part. That one is a Memplug SM. I also have a Total Recall voice recorder, Eyemodule2, Thinmodem, and Tiger Woods Golf module. I just got my Total Recall so I can't really say how much I will use that one. I used my Eyemodule2 a lot when I first got it. I took pictures of everything. I was so excited. Overtime, however, the coolness of it wore off and now I don't use it as much. I have been using it a lot today to make movies with sound (w/ the help of the Total Recall in its shuttle). They are not great movies but they are now really neat to show off. I never use my thinmodem anymore as I now have a cable connection and Roadrunner doesn't have a dialup number as well as the cable connection. I also rarely use my Tiger Woods module since I have a lot of games on my Memplug that I like more. If I am not using any other module, I am using Memplug SM. There is never a time when the blank slot is in my VPL except when showing off all the modules I have to people.

I have a b/u mod, 8mb mod, Eyemodule, Magellan GPS, and Total Voice Recorder. 8mb stays in most of the time. Magellan is the newest addition so I have been playing w/ it. Ditto on the pic taking, was a novelty for a while but gets dusty lately.

Had an Innopak/2V but I "loaned" it to a bud. Long story, kind of relates to my real good deal on Magellan.
