Take heart...

You're not the only one with a "problem" pre-schooler... My youngest was a "biter" and was constantly being sent home for biting other children. It's fairly typical behavior for a three year old, but it's very disconcerting.

It wasn't until I showed them the bites on her arm that I was able to prove it was in "self defense." I recommended that they needed more supervision in the classroom. It was the day before they were going to "remove" her from the school. They added an extra teacher, and the problem disappeared. Funny how that happens...

As for the cussing... they are remarkable in repeating what they hear! My daughters even mimicked my husbands gestures (hands on hips, head tilted to one side...) while they did it. I warned him...

They grow up fast (yep, even husbands) and before you know it, they'll be off to college. My oldest left in September, and I'm still a little blue... Still stuck with the husband though.

I hope you'll be able to laugh about this in a few years.

That's the plan. Both my wife and my mother want my son removed gradually. I just want him out. I've ceded the point, but it chafes.

That's quite impressive. He couldn't recite the alphabet before three, but he could identify every letter, upper and lower case. Bragging is fun. My son changes the languages for his games (on my wife's mac thankfully) to German/Swedish/whatever, rearranges the keys, and relearns the game from scratch. When he gets bored, he does it again. He's starting to figure out analog clocks.

Emotionally, however, he just turn 4 two weeks ago and needs to be treated at that level. Not that a modicum of caring isn't called for at any age...

I'm personally doubtful, but I do know that I was fully capable of reading the encyclopedia (and dictionary when necessary) at 4, so I'm not surprised. She does rock, though. Coolness. He needs to be in a more positive environment, ASAP, IMO.

I think that's the problem that many have. They forget that while intellectual development can sometimes eclipse age, emotional development is hard to speed up. That's why I purposefully sabotaged some of that stuff for myself early. Book learnin' ain't all there is to life.

Part of the problem we have with today's kids is that we're not letting them be kids!

When my 11 and 13 yr old daughters were younger (6-7), I made a conscious decision to let them remain "children" for as long as they wanted to... I wasn't going to force them to give up the stuffed animals or a favorite "blankie". Too many kids "grow up" too damned fast... it just isn't the same as when I was young (not that I can remember back that far).

I'm really referring to the beauty of a sunset, the fascination with leaves changing color (I stil get that way, even tho I have to rake the damn things up later), the majesty of hot air baloons, how easy it is to shock your mom after scuffing your feet on carpet ...

It's gone? That thread alone could justify the raison d'etre of this site. Did it roll out because of inactive time or something?

He's out. Got his stuff and paid the bill on Friday. My wife's mom and mine are taking shifts. Surprisingly enough , he's picked up small words since monday (a, an).

The question is now, where to go from here.

Hey.. Ok i did some digging in the database today and found the original thread! I haven't figured out why it won't display yet .. However, it hasn't been deleted and i have all 87 posts of it in the database. (threadID 4884)
