(This is a copy of a message I posted on another site. the discussion was "visor memory upgrade".)
Actually, the Visor Deluxe comes with 8MB. Handspring also offers a 8MB Flash Module, which will give you 16MB, BUT it should only be used for data that you do not modify on a fairly regular basis. When you HotSync, you don't actually 'talk' to the FM. Thats why you are not able to keep database information such as Address Book on the FM you constantly update it on either the Visor or the desktop. (You COULD have the address information as a read-only *backup* there.) Think of it just like a Zip disk removable storage. (Applications/files are moved to the FM by a program called FileMover includes with the FM.)
Its GREAT for storing large documents that you may need to frequently access, but dont want to take up your valuable internal memory. (If the FM data needs to be updated, it must be put on the actual Visor first, then moved over again using FileMover.)
I personally use the FM for e-books from www.peanutpress.com and loads of fan fiction (Word and text files) Im a reader, and I like using the Visor for the normal PDA stuff, and keeping my reading material on the Flash module.
Others can give you more information on what applications will/will not work on the FM the only one Ive tried is the Peanut Press Reader. When the module was not in the Springboard slot, the application did not list on my screen, but as soon as the module was inserted, the screen updated to include it.
