Hello all. I'm having a problem syncing to Outlook on my work laptop.

The problem is on the PC side. I can't seem to get the HotSync configured with Outlook
as my E-mail client. When I open up HotSync and use the "Custom" menu selection to
change my mail settings, it does not retain the configuration. I select "Mail" and hit
"Change" and it brings up the dialog box which lets me select Outlook as the mail
client. It says it has successfully configured with Outlook as the client and the profile
I selected. But the next box that opens (the one lets you control what action is
to be taken on synchronization) doesn't have Outlook or the profile listed. And if I
go into Mail Setup again from there, it has not retained any of that info.

Also, if I choose "Mail Setup" from the Start->Programs menu, nothing happens. I get no
dialog box...nothing.

Some details on the laptop: It's running Windows 95. I've just downloaded the latest
Palm Desktop update. (Same results as with the CD-ROM installed version.)

Any suggestions on where to start??

Make sure Outlook is set as your default MAPI mail client. If you're using Internet Explorer, goto Tools, Options, Programs, and make sure the E-mail box is set to Outlook.

My system was already configured with Outlook as the MAPI mail client.

When you change the settings in the Mail conduit to Synchronize from HotSync menu, are you also checking the Save As Default box? If you don't, the settings will only apply to the next HotSync and then revert back.

Also, if you happen to have multiple profiles defined in Outlook, you need to specify the one to use in the Mail settings.

I just discovered that I can't start Mail Setup from the Program menu either... hmmm...

Checking the box doesn't do any good. What happens is that I go through the Mail
Setup, select Microsoft Outlook as the mail client. Setup seems happy with that because
it comes back and asks me which profile to use. There are two on my laptop. I select
one of the two profiles, and Setup tells me that everything's A-OK. It says my Mail
sync has now been configured for Outlook with the profile I've selected. I click Finish
to end the Setup. The next dialog which comes up has the Sync options (sync, overwrite,
etc.) and the Save as Default check box you mentioned. But at that point, the configuration
is already lost. The area at the bottom of the screen has no information about which
mail client or profile is selected.

I managed to get the problem fixed. I downloaded an E-mail conduit updater from
Palm's website and now it's working fine.

Thanks for your suggestions Mark....
