I just got my Yada Yada modem for my optimized Visor Deluxe today, and it's great!

I'm experiencing some problems that I've read on the discussions here.

Here are some tips I've figured out. I hope it may help other wireless users.

1. GET THE BACKUP MODULE!
I was logging onto My YadaYada and suddenly I got the dreaded "fatal error" message. Usually I would just press the reset button on the screen or use the reset pin on the stylus. The reset on the screen worked, but this time it deleted everything from my Visor! If I hadn't had the Backup Module, I would probably have become violent (well...very angry). Get the Backup and do it often!

2. POWER OFF MODEM TO AVOID CRASHING:
I would always get an crashing error when I manually turned off the Visor or when the Visor automatically shut off. What a pain it was. When your session is done, go to the Novatel/Minstrel S button and "shutdown" the modem. I've found this to prevent some crashes.

3. HAVE 2 BROWSERS JUST IN CASE:
I have Blazer and YY's browser installed. Sometimes I can't get in with one, but the other will work.

Thanks for the tips, Mike. I also find that sometimes when I pull the modem out [after properly shutting it down] my op'd DX resets and then gets stuck in the infamous reset loop. Neither soft nor warm resets will work - calling for the hard reset. Another reason to have a current module backup [or maybe that's just a problem I'm having].

I also like the Palmscape browser [the beta of which just expired on me - going back for more].

Switch to a safe application first...

OmniSky technical support also recommends switching to a 'safe' application (like the launcher) before removing the module. The problem occurs because the 'Power Switch' application is located on the module itself and program that unloads the module software (when you remove the module) can encounter a situation where it attempts to access any open application but can't, thereby causing the infamous 'reset loop'. I personally hope that OmniSky posts a fix for this soon, since I myself have had to hard reset my Prism on more than one occasion.

reset loop

pf,
when it gets in that loop, start tapping the home button when you see the palm os logo, this will jump to the launcher before the minstrel software loads, this gets you out of the loop.
