edge-to-phone connector cable & keyboard

To anybody that can help,

Just the other day I got the cable to connect my Samsung 3500 phone to my Edge. It works great and I love it. But I want to have a keyboard attachment as well.

I then realized that the keyboard attachments to the Visor's (still haven't seen one specifically for the Edge yet...) attach obviously through the bottom connector. But that's also how my phone connects to the Edge.

So it seems like I can only have one or the other in use... but I really need both. Does anybody know if someone's coming out with a keyboard attachment with some sort of a pass-through connector or extra connector to allow me to use both a keyboard and the phone?

Hopefully if one isn't out now somebody's working on one... since I can't be the only person who needs something like this. Sure.. I know the alternative is using some sort of springboard plugin for a modem... then the bottom connector is freed up.... But then I'd have to buy another expensive extra.... the Edge cost enough as it is.

Thanks,

-chris

Lightbulb

Here is a thought for some ingenious type out there, what about the GoType keyboards?

As I understand it, the GoType has the ability to allow it to double as a hotsync cradle. Is there a way that instead of connecting the cable for it to a PC, you could connect it to a cell phone instead.

I am not sure this will work, as you would have 2 devices operating over the same serial port.

Food for thought...

It's been done with serial cradles and phones before.. is the gotype serial or usb?

....but, I don't think you could type and get online at the same time, only 1 connector there, after all...

The GoType is USB. From Visor Central's Review
quote:
You effectively get 18 function keys because you can use the Shift and Alt keys in combination with a function button to activate everything from an application or the Backlight to initiating a HotSync (Shift+F3). If you activate a HotSync this way, a screen pops up that gives you a warning to switch the keyboard from typing to the comm port then starts the HotSync.

Which would definitly indicate that this is not possible.

thanks... but you're straying from the original post

Folks,

Thanks for the input... but you're heading off on a tangent. I was hoping for somebody who knows of a possible product for my problem... or if at least there's a keyboard out from somebody for the Edge.

Thanks,

-chris

Well, we were looking for a solution, but came up empty. Bottom line: There is no KB for the edge yet, wait until August. And there is no Springboard or Edge Connector solution for a wireless phone except for wireless modems and the visorphone. Until somebody comes up with a SB--Wireless Phone SB, you have to use one or the other.

I think everyone is waiting for the Stowaway keyboard that is supposed to come out in August, I believe.

And BTW: that August timeline is not firm, it comes from an email ThinkOutside sent me, posted here

thanks.... :)

That's what I was looking for.... unfortunately what I want doesn't exist, as I was afraid of. But who knows... I can't be the only one who would be interested in buying a keyboard that has a pass-through connector to allow more than one connection to the bottom of the Edge (or any Visor for that matter...
