Update OS?

I've just recently got a VDx, and notice that in the folders for the desktop software there is a folder called Update. Within this are various version numbered folders right up to V3.52 which contains the file upd352H1_5.prc. As my VDx is currently running v3.1H3 will installing this file update the OS? What benefits will this give, and is this a good idea?

I can find nothing in the documentation about it, so any advice would be welcome.

Thanks
Jonathan

This will not upgrade your OS on your vdx. It is merely a patch for visors that run 3.5. If you look there are probably 1 or 2 patches in there for 3.1 probably named: upd31Hx_x.prc or something similar. If you hotsync these onto your vdx it will patch your OS for some minor bug fixes.

Unfortunatly visors do have have flash rom so they cannot have their OS upgraded. Something I really enjoyed about my handera and soon to be clie.

However, HS does have a very expensive solution for you. You can always buy a neo. (Just a more expensive VDX with 3.5 installed)

The 3.5.2 updates won't do anything for your deluxe and may not even work on the Deluxe. They're only patch files for the Platnum and Prism. The Edge, Neo and Pro probably have even higher version numbers (I know the Edge runs 3.5.2H2).

AFAIK, there haven't been any new patches released for the Deluxe, so 3.1H3 is probably the latest. I'd check the support section on Handspring's website to confirm this though.

Just for clarification, I think ashmed means "do not have flash rom".

Exactly.

Best Buy has the Neo on sale for $160.99 and a $25 mail in rebate, bring the cost down to about $136. Not bad for faster processor and updated OS. I believe the offer expires on 3/30.

I recently contemplated upgrading by wife's Palm IIIx to OS 3.5. I found out I can't do that, but can upgrade to OS4 for $30. Frankly decided it was not worth putting anything more into system with only 4 meg of RAM. I would rather wait and invest in OS5 device with new processor. Flash ROM is nice, but maybe Handspring was right to save a few buck and use non-flashable ROM. By the time you want to upgrade the OS, you probably really want new handheld with new features to take advantage of new OS.
