If I order the modem seperately it cost $89 + shipping...
Is anyone planning to buy just the mako/psion? if so I would be interested if the would go for the combo deal an sell off the modem...

btw the modem works on your Visor too!

Programs for Mako/psion
By: oberon1 @ 04:17 PM

After having a few days to play with my new Mako I am very impressed, in fairness I think the Visor/Palm is a better PDA but if you want to work on word or excel files and syunc them back to your laptop/desktop them the mako is by far better right out of the box.

I found 2 programs that I would like to mention one is called piBeam wich lets you beam direct to amy windows PC (including 2000) works great for transfering files nothing special is needed for the Windows end so it will work with any IR capable windows PC.

The other is nConvert which allows you to convert psion/mako formated docs into windows format and them beam them (using plBeam) to any PC. PsiWin the sync program that comes with Psion (its called EPOC Connect with the Mako but is the same program) can do this but with nConvert you can convert and then beam to a PC that does not have Mako software installed.

My only Problem is now i have 3 devices to sort out

Blackberry from work
VPL for me
and now Mako

Regretably i think the Blackberry and Mako will end up replacing the visor

Also very cool is that you can beam bussiness cards from and to your Visor/palm with a Mako...
And if you are a system admin, there is a citrix client for epoc (free!) so you can control your servers (NT terminal server/win 2k) remotely. I was very impressed by that.. now all I need it an mibile with IR and I can work anywhere with coverage...

Is that "out of the box" or part of a shareware app?

My unit finally showed up today, but I probably won't get to play with it until tomorrow - I've heard you have to be careful to fully charge the battery the first time around, so I will probably just go home, plug it in, and let it go overnight.

Oberon: I've found nconvert, but where did you scare up pibeam? They sound interesting.

By: jeffbeerman2 @ 02:09 AM

everyone on revo boards is alking about "battery memory" problems, but I thought nimh didn't have memory problems? Anyone know for sure?

Battery Issue
By: VTL @ 06:08 AM

Here's the clearest explanation I've heard of the battery issue. That doesn't mean that it's correct.

The same site will also take you to an application that supposedly does a better job of monitoring battery life. I haven't tried it yet.

Has anyone tried to get on the internet with their Mako/travel modem combo yet? I just did, without success. It could have been the phone line I was using - we have digital phones and T-1 connections in my office, and just one old-fashioned analog line for "emergencies" that no one has used in a while.

By: VTL @ 04:20 AM

Well, it must have been the phone line (in case anyone cared) because I'm posting this with the Mako using the infrared travel modem' VC looks pretty decent in the Opera browser. even in greyscale.

I am so glad Sparco uses UPS for delivery... NOT

I was at work when UPS arrived today with my mako and modem. If they had Fed-Ex'd it, I would be able to pick up any time before midnight. I called UPS and if I want to pick it up there, I must wait till Thursday!!! Argh! Maby the UPS driver will get here before noon tomorrow when I leave for work.

I was off on Monday and found a lot of mako links if anyone is interested.

This link is the Tucows download section for EPOC. It is kind of weak because there is a lot of software which may not work with the small revo screen.

This site is called "Epocware", and has quite a few power apps and a really nice freeware drawing app. The fax app is not free but I think I am going to buy it. It faxes using the print command in any app, just like winfax.

This is the Tomeraider site. I have been playing with the windows demo for this app (which also has a Palm version without many of the EPOC features). I no longer have to worry about loosing my dictionary and Thesarus. There are TONS of reference and other documents for this reader which blow my Palm dictionary away. The best part is you only need to register the reader to access any of the available documents, including dictionaries, movie guides, translators, and encyclopedias. One of the encyclopedias is only about 5mb!

Offline Web is an app which is very much like avantgo but costs $24 to download They also have a very expensive but very cool-looking money app.

This link is the "EpocCity" forum. It is only semi-active but contains a lot of good info.

This link explains how to connect the revo to the net with a connected PC through the cradle.

This link is a list of ultra-useful articles about the revo and how to do almost anything with it. Revo World is very much like Visorcentral for the Revo, only the discussion boards seem very idle. If you buy a revo/mako, this is a must-have bookmark.

This link is to the "Freevo" site. It lists a ton af really great freeware apps. Scroll down to the contents section for a ton of other very useful links and info, including this review spanning six months of revo use. the review contains a **LOT** of screenshots. Another must-have bookmark!!!

This link is to the Mobipocket site. this is a document reader and appears to have avantgo-like abilities to sync web pages for offline viewing on the revo. I havn't read too much about it, but it appears to be free

Does anyone else have any other good Revo/Mako links to share. i want to be a power user out of the gates

So where...
By: Cotey @ 04:53 PM

...can i find one of these machines for under 100 bucks....you talk of this great deal but I am having great difficulty finding anything under 200 unless I go to E-Bay, where I just lost out on bidding that reach 114...

Help?

P.S. I believe this is post No. 5, so Boo-YAH right back!

By: VTL @ 05:44 PM

Jeff:

As posted earlier, I feel your pain. I got mine late in the day, and as a result ended up staying up past midnight (despite having to work the next day) to play with my new toy.

Great job ferreting out the links. Thanks.

Cotey:

Try www.sparco.com, that's where I got mine.

I think this reply from the BugMe folks shows why Psion left the handheld business. Developers have never heard of them.
