Question

What is the best program for accessing my pop email with my visor using a cell phone connection? Preferably it should be able to check more than just one pop address and be able to send emails too.

Cool

Multimail is great if you want attachments, but it's ugly and expensive.

Iambic Mail is what I use. It's cheap and works pretty good.

Thumbs up

Check out Eudora ( http://www.eudora.com/internetsuite/ ). It's great and it's free.

Cool

As I understand it though, Eudora doesn't interface with the address book. If that's true, it's pretty lame.

Not true, you can choose "look up address" from the menu.

I agree with Talldog, iambic Mail is the best. It's cheap ($9.95), small (126K), and works great. MultiMail has issues with Palm OS 3.0/3.1, so VSR and VDX users can't use it.

Please elaborate... I have yet to have a problem with MultiMail and can maybe help you with your problem.

MultiMail problems

I actually can't remember where I read that MultiMail requires Palm OS 3.5. I've been trying to track it down, because it explained why I routinely got Fatal Errors when trying to use MultiMail. I haven't had any luck finding the source, but I guess that lots of people haven't had any trouble so I must have been mistaken.

Truth is I'm very satisfied with iambic Mail.

Has anyone ever tried Aileron?

I would try it, but the developers converted the programs functionality to a monthly service.

I love Aileron and think it's the best mail program by far with this one proviso: I had problems with it on my Prism and it took a bit of talk with technical support to find a work around. I've heard others make the same complaint.

That said, Aileron is only $30 per year and includes:
1) the ability to open Word and Excel attachments with Documents to Go Lite;
2) IMAP and POP3 e-mail;
3) merge of your wireless or modem e-mails with Palm's own Mail database -- making it easy to track your mail and answer desktop e-mails on the road.

I recommend Aileron to everyone, and if you can get it to work on your Visor, I promise you won't be disappointed!!

(Their technical support is excellent, too. I sent them an e-mail asking about my problems with the Prism and they immediately called me long-distance to resolve the issue.)

Unhappy Aileron MIA!!

Prizer, is Aileron still working for you?

A week ago whilst checking my email a dialogue popped up telling me I needed to upgrade my software, then another telling me that "Aileron service has been disabled".
When I got home,I installed the update I'd previously been sent by Corsoft, but no change.

My initial response from them said that.... "we
have reason to believe someone is trying to impersonate Corsoft"....and that they were looking into it! Kind of ironic considering all their references to SSL servers ;-) Since then I've received no replies to any of my emails, which surprises me as previous exchanges with their tech support produced almost instant responses.

I liked Aileron a lot initially, but I'm rather dissappointed to still be in the dark about all this.So I'm now trying out Iambic which seems pretty good(thanks redtideguy).

I also have Multimail Discovery (basic version sans attachability) which works fine on my VDX, albeit with some annoying limitations (truncations, and no address book lookup etc).

I have yet to make Eudora work at all, and with no tech support for unregistered users, it doesn't look likely!

I have used Aileron every day this week on my Palm VIIx -- because I sold my Minstrel S for my Prism after having it crash one too many times. However, I've had no problems at all on the VIIx.

Were they really so unhelpful as that when you called? I've actually gotten e-mail from Chirag Patel, the Chair of the company, thanking me (after posting positive comments on PalmGear). Maybe that's who you should write: [email protected]

I've been using MultiMail on my VDx for quite a few months now, and have never experienced any problems with it.

I just tried Eudora on my vdx and had the same problem. Maybe something with my pop server. I'll double check the settings with outlook.

See a recent post regarding hotmail via IR and cell phone, for info on using sites like HTTPWorks to access web-based email.

I set up my pop email address in Eudora indentically to my settings stored in Outlook express and for some reason it can't receive any email. It says negotiating for awhile then just read error or "the server closed the connection." I had this same problem with Iambic mail. Anybody know what causes this? It sends email just fine btw.

No luck sending mail from Visor

I don't know if this applies to your situation, ashmed, but I had experienced the same problem when I first started out trying to check POP3 email with my Visor. It turned out that the university email system that I was logging into had decided not to let anyone connect to the SMTP (outgoing email) server from outside the university network. I could check my mail from outside, but I couldn't send.

I had to use the SMTP server for my ISP to send email. The nice thing is that iambic Mail will let you set your normal email address as the "reply to" address for both accounts, and I can send using one account and get email using the other.

Hope that this helps.
