Question

Call me lame, but:

I have noticed recently that some people have a picture under their name and location information when they post.

I can't seem to figure out how to do it. Can anybody help?

I hope you get the response you want, because I'd like to put a smilie in there too. The guys with the pictures have so far been reluctant to just outline the method used, probably because they're afraid someone will chew up the bandwidth by using a 640X480 picture of their pet cat Fluffy :P .

It's bad enough that we have to deal with slow ads downloading, now we have to deal with members images too. Sheesh.

On usenet it's considered bad etiquette to have a sig file more than a few lines long...now we have the equivalent of sig files that are 50K or more!!

I think image links should be disabled in posts. It's not bad if one member does it but once everyone starts it will really start to slow things down. I don't have a problem if there allowed in profile view only.

Thumbs down

bregent - You're just no fun.

I understand that we don't want to slow things down and you don't want people puttin in huge pictures in every post. That's not what I'm talking about.

It can easily be limited by VisorCentral staff to icon size, or even 75x75 or so. Kamizuno just wants a smilie for Pete's sake. How much can it really slow down a board if every single post has a 75x75 jpeg or a smilie?

Just think of it this way. Only the people who post very often have images under their names. Because you see these posts very often the images will be loaded into your cache. Once the images are loaded into you cache it doesn't take time to load them.

If you want to figure out how to get the images under your name don't ask, try until you get it. It took me nearly 15 tries before I got it.

Arrow

Just keep the images very small (and tasteful) or we will have to disable them. Make sure the image doesn't stretch the name section out longer and is very small in size.

If we receive too many complaints about them we may have to disable them.

Chill dude,

First off, there's a lot of info on this in the "test (nt)" post already, but here's how you do it:
NOTE: Remove the "{}"s from the code, I put them there so you can see the code and it doesn't activate.

in your Address location in your profile put:
<{}img src="[image URL]">

Hope this helps!

Petro - THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH.

Usually VisorCentral people are very helpful, and I was just a little surprised that it was so hard for me to information.

Thanks

I thought I might as well test it out here. It took me a couple of tries, then I figured out editing a message would refresh my profile, and I didn't have to keep posting. I had a space after the < and it wasn't working.

Anyways - Thanks for the help!

Congrats mchlwise, you got your image in there! Still trying to get my smilie, strangely enuf I think I would have an easier time getting an image in at this point, unfortunately I don't have any image I'd care to use in my profile. Oh well, at least I got a broken .jpg icon in my profile, that's a start I guess :P .

PS-Nice car, parks precisely in the profile box!

Thanks Kamizuno. Keep trying, I hope you get it. Unfortunately, I can't help with the smilie problem. I had enough trouble getting my jpeg in there. I guess you could always "screen shot" a smilie, cut it and make a jpeg, but there has to be a better way.

I'm thinking of changing my car to my face, but I don't know if that would be too cheesy.

Maybe my doggie.

Try this.

Find a smiley on VisorCentral that you like.. right click on it and go to Properties. Copy the address URL and paste it as outlined by Petro's post. Hope this helps..
