Hey all,
Did anyone happen to pick up an extra playstation 2? If so, I could use one. By the way, the $299 playstation is going for >$1000 on ebay right now. If anyone did get it, let me know how cool it is; at least I can live through others.

I played with it on Singapore Airport for a few minutes, and it was looking good!!

I'm waiting for it to be available in Australia (for PAL instead of NTCS)

Does anybody know if it can play DVD movies?

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

As far as I know, you can play DVD movies on it. However, DVD movies are specific to regions, you would have to get the right movies or else you'll probably have an expensive coaster if you can't unload it on someone else(if this happens, what will you do with all the AOL cds?).

Anyone want to buy a "Like New" Graphite Visor Deluxe for... say... $10,000?

Man I just got back from the mall. I was at Electronic Boutique checking out the Playstation2. I have a DC and my favorite game is NFL2K1. But playing John Madden 2001 on the PS2 was quite the experience. The Graphics are better than the DC. They have it hooked up to a flat screen monitor via s-video and it looked real good. Little fuzzy, but you could see player faces and expressions. You have to see it to believe it! I for one thought that nothing would top NFL2K1 in graphics atleast for awhile, well I stand corrected.

If you get a chance checkit out!!

I also saw Madden for the PS2 and it looked great. Even the little things are included like receivers turning their heads before their bodies, the sidelines action, etc. If you're walking by and glance at it, it looks like a real game. I can't wait till other games come out when the programmers have more experience with the hardware.

Does anyone know how the DVD playback quality on the PS2 compares to other DVD players? I've finally decided to get a DVD player and if the PS2 is a decent stand-alone player, I might as well get it.

DVD quality

I haven't seen the DVD quality of the PS2 myself, but in Japan, when the PS2 was released, people bought the machine only for the DVD player. That leads me to believe that it's probably pretty good.

I also heard that Sony took back the first batch because of problems (not sure if it was DVD related)
Can anybody who bought the PS2 test the DVD capabilities and let us know...

Even if the DVD quality is good how do you control the movie? Does it come with a remote? I wouldn't want to get up and use the PS2 controller every time I wanted to change something.

The remote and remote receiver is a ~$30 option. I looked at it yesterday in a store and the remote only had really basic controls.

Ooh. I didn't consider the lack of remote issue. Has anyone used the remote? Is it worthy of a DVD player? Could I use ANY sony DVD remote?
