Damn, this thread is still alive? I added my $0.02 back in 2000, so I guess it's time to post an update... Let's see, back in 2000 I was driving a '97 Mercedes-Benz E420 and looking into a BMW X5. In 2002, I'm still driving a '97 Mercedes-Benz E420, and no longer looking into an X5. Given the current state of the economy, as well as the consideral expenses that seem to go part and parcel with a new wife, chances are I'll be driving that damn Benz (yes, "damn Benz" - once you're off warranty with one of these things, you'll understand) for the rest of my life. I'll tell ya one thing though, when I do have the dough for a new car (I don't like leasing), I'm buying American. 'Nuff said.

Update:

Sold Mustang GT and bought a 2002 Honda Shadow ACE 750.
Wanted a sport bike, so I traded that in and got an '01 Katana
600 and a GS500E for my wife. Totalled the Katana on July 4th
when an idiot (drunk?) came around a curve in my lane. Replaced
that with an '02 Suzuki SV650S and loving it. Katana is still the
avatar, but I'll change that when I get a chance.

Mine's not a stationwagon...it's the sedan, but I love it just as much. My parents bought it brand new back in '82 and have kept it in good shape ever since. It is sleek, sexy black and has leather, power windows and locks and a sunroof...none of my friends cars has anywhere near these features (hmmm...wording a bit off..oh well you'ill get the jist)

The WRX is new to North America for the 2002 model year. It isn't extremely popular yet, but I think it's on its way. A pretty sizable aftermarket is developing for it here too. (Can't beat a turbo for tunability) My guess is that it will be popular with car thieves too. In addition, if you spend much time on Subaru message boards you'll see that there are a lot of people doing stupid things and making wrecks of their WRX. Before long I think insurance for them will be through the roof (if it's not already.)

The 2.5 RS has been here since '98, but other than a strong cult following, has never been extremely popular. It's still a lot of fun to drive, but its acceleration stats are not that exceptional so I guess it never got much attention from thieves or insurance companies. It has more suspension than engine, so it's harder to get in over your head. My hope is that both will learn to make the distinction.

Oops, I guess this post is getting a bit long. Don't get me started on cars
