Red face

(this may not be the right forum, but, hey...)

ok, i'm new to the land of cell phones and i've read hundreds of posts on this board about what cell phone works with a serial cable and with a null modem and with infrared and with the diagnostic card and with bluetooth and blah blah blah.

before i actually buy one of these things, this is what i want:

all of my phone numbers to be easly dialed by the phone, either by data transfer or some program that beams then dials.

to send and retreive email on the visor, maybe a little surfing here and there.

ease of set-up: i'm not really great with six thousand cables and long strings of numbers.

ease of use: i want to be able to use this thing on the fly. i've got the hs modem for when i'm able to sit down and be near a land line, and all that. i'm talking on break at rehearsal, or in town away from the house for hours on errands, or whatever...

to be able to use all the functions of the pda while on-line.

really what i want is that damn elusive cellphone springboard, but after no word at pc expo, i'm resigned to the pipedreaminess of that...

so, i understand there's one ir phone available in the states by motorola, and a bunch of phones through sprint that work with two, count'em, two cables. and that bluetooth is who knows how supportable.

what i need is some help. can we try to make a coherent thread for the layman who has no idea how to reconfigure the parts of a serial cradle to make this work. am i best off with ir? or is the cable thing easier than it sounds, or should i wait for the springboard.
or should i wait for the sixpak (or comprable innogear release of a cell modem) and see what that supports. i can wait a month or so (i plan that much for thorough research anyway, but much longer might just kill me.

coherence, kids. layman's terms, please.
