Cool

I don't know about everyone else but I am tired of the whinning and the rumors. I have confidence that the Visor is the best product available and I am willing to wait for the best. So please join me in celebrating one of the best and most useful tools to come out and let us with anticipation and joy await it's arrival!

I thought this board was for rumours, *****ing and moaning. We have exactly no news from Jeff Hawkins and company. What else is there to do.

It's a shame that VisorCentral found it necessary to move the Palm Pilot threads out of the general discussion area. In the absence of any real news, I think these conversations on purchase decisions are relevant and just as important as all of the guessing and speculation.

Discussing the pros and cons of Pilot versus Visor is okay, but the rest of the talk about ship dates, CSR's and so on sounds a bit obsessive to me.

I currently own a Newton, and the Visor is the first Palm device that really made me interested enough to buy it. I definitely plan to buy one, but I haven't placed an order yet. It just seemed to me that I would rather be certain about my order status, and be certain about the Visor itself, instead of being the first person on the block to have one.

All the people who want to be that first person on the block - just remember that the delays, phone orders on paper, crashed ecommerce sites, etc. are all the price you pay for having the latest and the greatest.

Bemoaning the fact that you're an early adopter doesn't do anybody any good. I've already made my purchase decision, and the fact that the early adopters are having issues isn't going to change it. I think that's true for a lot of the other fence-sitters who are waiting for the dust to clear, before they place their order.

Let us be a little forgiving to a company that has come out with something that is this exciting. To so quickly turn on them because they are experiencing a some difficulty is immature!

They have done nothing in my eyes to warrant the critisism that they are geting for there lack of response. If we all just take it easy and remember what sparked our interest in the product to begin with. We will be able to sustain our excitement even though we encounter some Minor! disappointments.

If I get my Blue Visor Deluxe with the 8 megs of ram and unlimited potential of the springboards by Christmas you will have one happy customer.

The topics that were moved were not discussing Palm vs. Handspring. They were about how to purchase a Palm organizer for x amount of money.

Be patient. October isn't over yet. If November 1 comes and Visors have not shipped, then you will have a reason to complain.

Again, everyone BREATHE!

Hasn't every one of us done just fine without a Handspring until now?

CHILL (said with "teen market" enthusiasm, though not a teenager myself).

It's just a PDA, after all. Geez.

CityJen, I've done just fine without a Visor, but not so fine without a PDA. Whether an old Casio or Palm Pilot, I've come to depend on PDAs, even the older versions. At the moment, I'm in the market for one because my old one died. It's not an optional toy. If it were, I imagine it wouldn't generate much interest in the first place.

Hey Cityjen,

Like the attitude. Can I chill!! with ya?

I think someone should do a study with the Visor and Mass hysteria. If this isn't a long a waited technilogically important device then it would not be recieving the attention it is getting.

So be of good cheer do not dispair and it the words of that imcoparable poet Cityjen
Chill!!

For a while I have listened and sided with the "chill" crowd about whining and rumors. But when the company cannot even acknowledge and order, authorize a change, or confirm credit card information because "it's somewhere between orders and distribution" and dosen't even know when it will ship, that's irresponsible, not just start up pains.

Hawkins and Dubinsky are two of the best in the business, but this marketing fiasco has gotten out of hand. Order confirmations WERE PROMISED one week after phone orders (which would have been 9/21). I don't care when they ship (well, I'd prefer before November 1), but they have got to keep track of my order and credit card information.

So true, Levi, so true...

If anyone is unsure of how to cancel an order sans Handspring, just call your credit card company and tell them you will not accept any charges from Handspring.

I guess you could say I've let the room...last person please turn out the lights.

I'm not too worried about cancelling my order - my credit card expires on Oct. 31 /99
I was informed when I ordered that it would not be a problem as they were shipping (and billing my card) before October 31.
I'll hang off on forwarding my new # and expiry date until I hear some form of order confirmation.

Don't really know what it means....but the latest from the CSR's is that orders will ship 4 to 6 weeks from the day the order was placed.

Myself and others I know have received the same response. The difference now is that there appears to be more uniformity in the answers. Wonder if all the emails to Mr. Loeffler at Handspring had anything to do with it?

I asked if the 4 to 6 week timeframe applied to orders placed today and was told YES. Lets see, mid October order, add six weeks, late November... Ho, ho, ho....maybe merry christmas!!

That's what these boards are for, rumor mills. Why else would we have them? I've only called HS once. That was on 9/16 to place my order for an ICE deluxe. I have made a few posts and read tons of posts from others on here. I have to agree with some of you. I think we are, as my dad used to say, 'Getting our panties in a wad' for no apparent reason. When I ordered, I was told, 4 weeks (mid of Oct.). Well, for me, that is Saturday. I'm not going to get all bent out of shape if my piece of ice colored technology is not sitting on my doorstep when I get up to watch cartoons (what happened to all the good cartoons like when I was a kid?). However, I would like some sort of statement from HS. My wife's birthday is next Tuesday, if by then, I have no Visor or statement from HS, then my order (if they can find it) will be canceled. After all, why buy a Visor now (that you don't know when it'll get here), with something like the 'SmartHand' (or whatever it is) is in the rumor mill for spring?
My 2 cents

Sorry, but Handspring's PR is just crap. The Visor launching was a complete desaster. The Hawkins guy made a complete fool of himself.

The sometimes silly news items on this server did not help too much. 'Hawkins & however - cutest couple' ??? To me thay look more like Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy.

Fact is, we don't know anything and many potential buyer switch to now cheaper IIIx or slightly more pricier V's.

Hawkins - you screwd it up. Maybe 'IT' is not your domain.

Hiphop - How old are you? You decided a long time ago not to get a Visor. Why do you hang around and cause trouble? I agree with you on the fact that Handspring has a weak PR department and should have kept us more informed, but you knocking the wrong person. Hawkins is the CPO of the company. He is not the only member of the company, just the most known. It was the marketing that messed up. If you expected everything to be perfect, then you have never been on the development of anything. The first time a product comes out, that are going to be roadbumps. I don't care how much you prepare for something, something is going to cause you problems. A mentor of mine had a quote "You don't know what you don't know". I don't believe Handspring knew what kind of response there were going to get, and they have been overwhelmed. Since you don't want a visor, and obviously don't like Handspring, why don't you go somewhere you can be productive. Or you can hang around here and get your kicks by posting combative post.

btw What does "desaster" mean?

HipHop-
Did you get fired by Hawkins at some point? I understand it's generally accepted that you're a 3Com op, but it sounds as though you are genuinely bitter towards this man.

Sour grapes...

To all those monitoring: Hip Hop loves stirring the pot and he loves getting responses from all of you. I have chosen to ignore it as I'm ignoring all the BMWs regarding the shipping dates and the multiple phone calls to the CSRs.

I'm waiting patiently and those who want can continue to BMW about anything they want.

Thumbs up

Well to all of you critics it looks like Handspring is listening and that our thoughts that they have been overwelmed seem to be true. I also believe that the motives for certain individuals are not in the best interest of Handspring and we as true Handspring supporters must take a stand and ignore the FUD that these spies are spreading.

Stay tuned Handspring is going to post an official annoucement later on today.
