Question

Due to an complete crash of my VDX and one of those nifty extended warranties that you're not supposed to buy (but I did) at CompUSA; I have an opportunity to either get a replacement VDX or pay the $50 difference and upgrade to the Platinum.

I'm really interested in how the platinum is doing? I'd like the extra speed, but if it's not going to be as reliable as my old VDX then maybe I'll just stay put.

Thanks in advance for the input.

Travis

Get the Platinum.

My wife got a Visor 2meg +8meg flash module from me for Christmas. I was so fascinated with it she told me to get my own. I researched a bit, and was sold on the faster speed an 16 grayscale screen of the Platinum.

So we have two in the house. We play lots of Scrabble, so I found a scorepad application online. We have it in both Visors.

My wife will only keep score if she can use my platinum.

Get the Platinum.

He: Look what I'm giving you, honey! My Visor Deluxe!

She: Sweetheart, I love you sooo much! Thank you! You're so generous!

He: Yeah... I decided to replace that old thang with this brand new color Prism.

She: Oh... how come you didn't get ME the Prism instead?

He: Well I... um.... well, I already had the Deluxe for a year, and you didn't have one at all, so I figured...

She: You figured I'd just take your hand-me-down, huh? So what else have you given me that's a hand-me-down? I'm only good enough for hand-me-downs, is that it?

He: Well um... well....

[Sorry, I just HAD to post this, because I've experienced it... in REVERSE when I upgraded, and "gave" my old digital camera to my hubby!!]

Talking Thanks for the advice - going for the gold ... er platinum!

Thanks for your input. If CompUSA ever gets them back in I'll upgrade. Now if I could only upgrade my PC for $50

Oh, well ......

Thanks again,

Travis

Thumbs up Definitely go for the Platinum!

The speed is noticeable, and with the speed comes the ability down the road to run really serious applications that the Dx wouls struggle with. You may not be looking at really serious applications, but with the Platinum you could.

I recently had the opportunity to try a freind's Prism. My Platinum brought-up and operated most apps as fast as his Prism, except for the CityTime, and calendar - on which My Platinum was noticeably faster!

Go ahead! Go the extra $50, you'll be glad you did for some time.

One question though: What do you mean by your Dx's durability? I'm not sure what you mean by the Visor's durability.

I have a platinum. 16 colors (shades of gray). My wife was a solo (same as deluxe, but with 2meg ram). 4 colors (grays).

I bought an eyemodule.

Picture are useable looking at them on my platinum's screen. The preview mode appears to be almost 15fps. Fast redraw of screen.

Pictures are barely recognizable on my wife's screen. Preview mode is about 7fps. You can see the image being drawn on the screen. Makes a big difference.

Get a platinum, or better yet a prism. You'll love the speed and extra colors when you get an application that will use those features. You won't want to go back to a slower device.

Thumbs up Platinum worth the extra ca$h

Go for the Platinum - you get a processor that is about twice as fast as the VDX, as well as 16 shades of gray as opposed to 4 (this does make a difference when viewing images). Also, my Platinum has a newer Palm OS than a VDX I used to use.
