I kind of went crazy with my Visor... Installed all 8 megs worth of stuff, deleted it and repeated a few times...

Needless to say, I noticed when I deleted the .prc of a Trivia game it did not delete the .pdb files that came with it and now I am looking at a bunch of .pdb files that I have no idea where they belong or whether or not they are safe to delete...

Is there a recommended CleanSweep-esque app for Palm Os handhelds?

I don't know of a cleen sweep type of program but there are a couple of things I'd try and do myself:
First: Get a program called Lauch em. It has a trash can feature and when you "delete" a program it asks you if you want to delete the application and the corresponding databases and support files that goes with it. You can find Launch em at synergy solutions or at www.palmgear.com

Second: Sync your Visor and then check the Palm/SR/backup folder to verify that the exact same file is located there as that is on the Visor. This is the normal backup location. Delete the file from you Visor and then see what happens. If you get a failure resync choosing the option of having the desktop overwrite the handheld from the Hot sync manager and the file should reinstall. If not you can always double click on the file from your desktop and it should lauch the Palm installer application which will get the program or database reloaded on the next sync. Then you should be fine.
You can use the procedure over and over to "clean" various files from the Visor.

Don't delete the saved and unsaved preferences from the Visor because this stores critical user info and settings.

Most software writers also name their files very similarly so if you've got a strange PDB that doesn't have a similar named PRC then it's probably orphaned and safe to delete.

Obviously, files such as CopySSTA.prc and CutSSta.prc and similar are text tools that are used by the Visor to cut, copy and paste text (clipboard function) and should not be deleted. They will not have a corresponding icon in the applications section of the Visor.

Launchem works for me though relative to the above procedure.

Red face

OK, I'll admit that I don't understand what's going on...when I delete an app in my Visor, the normal system software asks if I want to delete associated files...so...how are you deleting stuff, and how do you see the unattached .pdb files? Do I need a hack to see if any of these are lurking on my Vdx?

Mine asks if I want to delete the associated db's also but when I do a listing of what I -can- delete or look at the info command, it shows something related to the program that I had just deleted.

I just found a program called DBCleaner on both Cnet Downloads -and- Palm Gear... it is supposed to do what I want and appears to have done something after running it... But until I give it a test run on something I know it should delete after an uninstall, I cannot vouch for its reliability...

There is also one product (when doing a search on Palm Gear) called Defrag...but it crashed my Visor so I would not recommend.
