I know, this is an incredibly silly thing, but I have not figured out how to turn on the backlight. I have downloaded a launcher program, and it has a little icon that I can control it with. But.... what is the actual way to do that formally?

Push and hold the On button.

I set mine up to use the pen stroke (long botton to top stroke) to turn it on. You can do this through the Prefs --> Buttons menus, then select pen.
