Lightbulb

Hi all,
Here's what I've been considering for a purchase plan for an Edge, and I'd like to get some feedback on it:

1) Buy a red Edge ( so it'll match my hair ) and a Backup Module when the Edge travel charger becomes available. That way I'll get free shipping on the whole package from HS. ---If the charger actually ships while the offer is still good. :/ --- But worth a shot, since I can't get a Red one any where else. Otherwise I'll just get the Edge and the Backup.

2) Play with the thing for a while.

3) Decide if I want a modem, then decide on which one. I've been leanthing towards the Thinmodem family. The rebate is making the original TM look good, but the 8mb on the TM+ might be worth it, especially if it turns out that I like to use AdvantGo, etc.

So does this sound like a workable plan?
Or should I just buy now, and pick up the charger locally once it's out?
For the modem, it seems like the TM family is the best mainly because of their size (or lack of it !). But they don't do fax. Do you think size vs. fax is a good trade.
Same for not having their own batteries? But if I get the travel charger it's a moot point, since most landlines have an AC outlet somewhere close!
Any comments?

Jen - I have the TM+, and I like it a lot. It not only has 8MB, but also has a USB mover so you can install files to the visor or directly to the module without doing a hotsync (I'm not sure if this is available as an upgrade for the original TM, although there is an upgrade to 56K for the original). By the way, I don't think AvantGo works real well if you try to put the databases on flash memory (and PQAs don't either), although you can free up space for the huge AvantGo databases by moving other apps and dbs off to the memory module. - Rob

I'd prolly get the Edge and Backup now, and wait for the Thinmodem+ and travel charger. The reason I say that is so you can get used to the Edge and see if you'd really need a Thinmodem+. I also think there might be a Rebate, price reduction, or Coupon type thing gonna be happening with the Thinmodem+ some time soon. Yes the size/8MB flash makes up for the non-fax-ability of the thinmodem+. Not having their own batteries, is in my opinion not a big deal w/ the Edge because It's runtime is Phenomenal, I can't tell if I've been surfing or not. Hope this helped and good luck!

Thumbs up

Thanks for the input, I think I'll go ahead and place the order in the next week. I'll give HS 'till Friday to ship the travel charger!
