Question Inconsistent Hotsync--some data won't sync

Configuration:

- Visor Deluxe
- PC with W2K serial cradle

Hotsync generally works fine, but certain entries on certain days that are entered in the desktop will not sync to the Visor.

What I tried:

- Soft reset
- Fresh batteries

Is this totally random or is there any pattern to it? The first thing I would check is the conduit settings to make sure everything is set to 'Synchronize'.

check the data itself

You can get this problem sometimes when you have extremely long labels (over 220 characters or so) or a no label (null text)entry for a Datebook entry. You don't always get errors due to these situations but it is more likely.

Another related thing is when you have an attached note that shows up in Palm Desktop as having a really long scroll bar. The long scroll bar shows up because of dozens or even hundreds of spurious carriage returns that were generated by a HotSync processing flaw. HotSync can choke on such entries.

One fairly quick check for these issues is to try to print your Datebook from the monthly view. If the printer spooler gets overrun and starts spitting out useless semi-completed calendar sheets, you know you have the problem described. Then just find the guilty entry and delete it and problem solved.
