forgive me...serial cradle for W2k?

I swear, I've done it all. I've followed all the suggestions on this site, as well as Handspring.com, I've used the registry cleaner, installed and uninstalled the lastest Palm Desktop. And I still can't get past that USB installation error with Windows 2000 Pro on my Dell Latitude with my Visor Platinum. Works like a charm on Windows ME and my other laptop.

So I'm desperate to get my data onto my laptop and be able to synch regularly on the road. I've decided to give up and buy a serial cradle. The big question: will that solution work?

Option 1:

Go to Win2K Device Manager, choose the menu item "Show Hidden" - You will probably now see your disabled Visor. Double click it and choose to reinstall the drivers. Choose the drivers off of your Palm 4.01 directory labeled "drivers". You should now be off and running.

Option 2: Follow the instructions on Handspring website for Syncing via Infra Red. A little slow, but it works.

Hope this helps.
