Same old b.s. from innogear. Was going to buy the sixpak, but now I'm just going to stick with my thinmodem. Innogear doesn't seem to know the meaning of a deadline, part delays or not.

I'm steamed. The parts shortage thing no longer flies with me - we are seeing other springboard that must use components from the same sources coming out, so that is not a complete explanation.

The infuriating thing is the way they have led folks on, over and over again. The communication from them has been worse than terrible. I got an email from them in late September (in response to an inquiry) where they assured me it would be out the middle of this month.

I lost count of the number of times Innogear has told us "it's coming out on Qx of 'xx." They might have a winner with the MiniJam, but I think most of us were really waiting (and waiting) for the SixPak.

I fully expect them to come to us March 2001 and extend to Q3 2001.

Thumbs down

I actually laughed when I read the news. I got over Innogear months ago, after reading the same BS every few weeks. I was only uncertain about how long a delay they were going to claim this time, not whether there was going to be a delay. The only thing that (mildly) surprised me was that, instead of Decemeber, Innogear's shooting for "Q1 2000" (note the three-month spread). Anyone want to take a pool on what target quarter they'll announce in March?

Slacker, you have the floor...

I just got off the phone with Innogear after repeated no replies to my emails (had to call from overseas, I reside on a remote US Naval facility...over a $1/minute!!! :-( ) concerning the no show on my MiniJam. Come to find out, they sent it by UPS after receiving specific instructions to send via the US mail. When it was returned (shouldn't have went out, the ZIP would have told them that it wasn't a street address) they neglected to email me of the difficulty or reply to my many emails. 3-1/2 weeks ago they told me it would be here in 'a week...or two'. Now it is on back-order again and they will not be able to ship me a unit for at least 1-1/2 weeks. They did try to sell me a 32Mb version. They only made lame apologizes and no offer of good faith to ship by a faster means.

I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS COMPANY. I'VE WAITED WAY TO LONG FOR THEIR 6-PACK, I BUYING FROM OTHER SPRINGBOARD PROVIDERS FROM NOW ON!

Innogear is crap. How 'bout a boycott? The sixpack thing speaks for itself. As far as the Minijam, I haven't used one but from what I've read the Soundsgood has it beat hands down (disregarding of course the HUGE delays and promised features that aren't there). I can hold out for a REAL company to put out a cell. compatible modem.

*NOD* *NOD* *NOD* --- I have to agree with all of you here.. there is no excuses for this type of business practice. The sixpack was announced back September 99 with a slated release date of Q1 2000 .. now they are pushing back to Q1 2001 and who knows where it will go from there (I personally think they will pull the product..) -- oh well.. none of my money is going innogear's way any time soon....

Everything I could say has already been said above. As such, I'll simply state that there is a certain tolerance threshold which, when surpassed, causes anger and frustration to grow exponentially. It seems that Innogear has successfully tormented potential customers to this point of intolerance--obviously no way to run a business.

I respect Good Technology and others for their ability to remain silent until they have ACTUAL SHIPPING PRODUCTS. Nevertheless, it's one thing to promise and deliver, and it's another to be Innogear.

Now, where can I purchase the Thincom?

Exclamation Did you say SIXPACK? What is that?

Guys are you talking about a module that includes 6 modules in one? Come on guys... do you really think someone would make such a module? NO WAY.. Now if we are talking about Innogear... well, things change. Because no one can win the KING OF LIES...

Please erease the word SIXPACK from your brain because it will never exist.

Now if you are drunk and you like to fantasy, you better buy a real SIXPACK from your grocery store or super market.

Let's start a boycott and put Vaporgear out of business. That is the only thing we can do to prevent more users from falling into the pit.

I have been able to try both the minijam and the soundsgood. After waiting 3 months to get my minijam the same day I get my Prism I find it isn't compatible and that it eats batteries like it was it's last meal. So I ordered the soundsgood and used the minijam with my old deluxe for about a week until my soundsgood came. After using the soundsgood, You couldn't PAY me to switch back to the MiniJam, No way! (The Energy Clip looks REALLY appealing)

Conspiracy theory

Anybody remember the "5 Pak" thread? It was a reaction from a VC member who noticed that Innogear's FAQ page on the SixPak was one feature short of a half dozen. I copied and pasted the relevant part:

quote:
Q: What is The SixPak Combo?

A: The SixPak Combo, considered by many to be the killer Springboard Module. It packs SIX useful features into one, standard size Springboard Module:

56Kbps WIRELINE MODEM: V.90 phone modem connects at up to 56Kbps directly to phone lines without the need of any dongle

CELLULAR CAPABLE MODEM: External expansion port allows a data connection with Cellular phones while on the road (optional cable will be sold separately by InnoGear)

VIBRATING ALARM: Silent alert (vibratory) allows for alarms in situations where beeps are inappropriate

FLASHING LED ALARM: Visual alert flashes red or green through the integrated HotSync

MEMORY EXPANSION FOR YOUR VISOR: 8-Megabytes of Flash memory allows for OEM developer bundles, program storage and data backup.

Innogear posted their response in the thread:

quote:
SixPak is still as SixPak...we are still a voice recorder...we will check into the web site information....we are completely rebuilding the web site, so possibly someting happened to the text data.

Interesting how something possibly "happened" to the text data for the one feature, voice recording, that coincidentally was dropped from the MiniJam. In the MiniJam's case, Innogear never announced that voice recording was dropped. Once again, a VC member happened to notice that voice recording was no longer included in the product description, and that's when Innogear informed us that it was being dropped (after taking preorders).

In the parallel universe where the SixPak exists and ships in 2002, don't expect it to include voice recording.

Angry Lies

Innogear should have been forthcmoming about this issue. They shouldn't have strung us along like they did. I was anticipating the "six-pack" to be released in the next few weeks -- not the next few months. They should have told us in the summer that it wouldn't be available until next summer. Face it folks, Q1 2000 really means Q2 or Q3 with Innogear.

Now I understand why Jeff Hawkins was touting the Sounds Good module over the Minijam! SoundGood does sound good doesn't it?

I can remember wondering whether I should "wait" for the Six-pack last spring!

As much as people complained about HandSpring, they have delievered and continued to develop. Innogear should indeed pull the Six-Pack from their lineup and spare themselves the further shame that will come from not being able to meet their next "deadline." I'm glad I got the HandSpring modem instead of waiting.

Lame! I really didn't expect any better from Innogear, but I'm beginning to see that this item may never come out. I can't believe that as a "premiere" module maker (Handspring was touting the MiniJam and the Sixpac as the killer modules) , Handspring would not step in and do something here. Afterall, this is mud in the face of Handspring...

Oh, another interesting tidbit I got today:

Angry Overwhelmed, incompetent etc

The sixpack story really tells all. The product has never made sense and will NEVER be released (at least not for $199).

Do the math: Modem + Vibe + memory Upgrade =
Handspring modem (129.00) + InnoPak (45.00)= $174.00

So Innogear, is going to through in Cellular compatiblity, Voice recorder for free?!!?!!

I bought a miniJam. Waited 2.5 months like everyone else. I had a bad button. Sent it back with an RMA. No response. Called three times. After much discussion, I'm still waiting on the refund, which I requested because after 3 weeks they never sent a new unit.

MiniJam has bad drivers (very slow downloads), bad powermanagement and incompatiblity with the new Prisms.

BUT DON'T WORRY, THEY ARE WORKING ON A NEW INNOPAK WITH A BUILT-IN 56K LAND LINE MODEM!

INNOGEAR: STOP! LISTEN! FIX WHAT YOU HAVE FIRST. WORK ON PRODUCT PROMISED.

I personnally would sell my Visor and switch to an IPAQ before buying another Innogear product...ever.
