What I would like to see is an ambient/incident lightmeter springboard expansion. It would be nice to be able to calculate for any shutter speed (including a cine scale for us part time filmmakers) and any aperature. Possibilities would be endless -- Put in your desired DOF and all calculations would be done - not to mention flash metering and so forth... Being able to expand on the software would be a wonderful addition to this (i.e. to use the variables in many situation...)

Man - I would love to see this module...Anyone Else?

Imagiworks has SensorScience light sensor springboard, check out http://www.imagiworks.com/prod_cons/prod_ss.html for more info. Not exactly what you are looking for but something along the way.

Way ahead of you fern.

I contacted Imagiworks several weeks ago about this very thing. A light meter to go with some kind of frame tracking software (light conditions, fstop, shutter speed, film speed, etc.) Heck, you could even ir synch the visor to work with a remote shutter release! They told me, "Yeah, we thought about that too and it sounds great! But - we're primarily focusing on our 'learning tools' right now...so maybe next year." That's paraphrasing it anyway. BUT, maybe if a whole BUNCH of people wrote to them saying how cool that would be...so get to work!!!

It will be interesting hf the science kit can be used to measure incident light (footcandles), reflected light/ surface luminance, and (now I'm fantasizing) CIE chromaticity or colorimetry. Here's hoping!

What I would hope for in an ideal situation is just a springboard module that adds the little ambient light bulb to the top of the visor. Maybe one with a bulb and a spot but either way, just give it the rough outline of a motorola IVf... with a boatload of potential and possibilities......

For a visor light meter to truly be functional, it would have to be both an incident and spot meter, much like the design of the new sekonic. If it doesn't have a spot, that leaves the DP still carrying two to three meters (incident, spot, and color temperature meters) around with him. As far as the software...David Eubank (www.davideubank.com) already has a depth of field calculator and a camera log database program for the palm platform.

Were the software to be adapted to be paired with an incident/spot meter, it could be quite a desireable filmmaking tool, as it would generate an instantly accessable camera log. You could quickly check which prime you used in the third set-up two weeks ago without takeing your eyes off your visor.

I know I'd buy it as soon as it was available.

Hell with light, we need a sound level meter so I can callibrate my stereo finally. There could be plenty of stuff on the readout to make it worth a few bucks. I'd buy it.

I checked out David Eubanks website. He did good job on developing a useable DOF calculator and log book. Have you seen anything similar to this for still photographers?

Nope, I haven't seen any good programs for still photography, but I can't say I've been looking for them either. It should be pretty simple to make a still photography DOF/exposure/reciprocity calculator and maybe a small DB program to catalog your photographs as you take them.

David eubanks stuff looked very usefull to me, and I must admit that it's pretty much the single reason I've decided to buy into the palmOS line. Now I just have to decide between the Vx with an omnisky modem, or a visor in hopes that they'll create a usefull springboard (not just gadgets and toys).
