I can dial into our office by creating a standard dial-up networking connection, providing the phone number, user name and password on a pc/laptop. This logs me onto the RAS server (Mississippi) where I then enter my network log-in username and password (different from those for the RAS server).
However, I've begun experimenting with my VPL and a Xircom Modem but to no avail. I've set-up the network prefs using the phone number, ras username and password. I then set up the connection prefs to use the Xircom modem. No matter how I adjust the connections I get PPP timeout errors.
This isn't a modem problem as i can dial into my ISP and send/receive mail or browse the net.
So I set out to search visorcentral.com, palm.com, handspring.com and xircom.com for help, but I am confused. Most of the documentation doesn't correspond to what I see on my VPL running 3.5.2H2. Sometimes they refer to 'modem' prefs but I don't have this only connection settings, other times the screenshots don't match my screen.
Can anybody shed any light on what I am doing wrong or where I can get accurate instructions for doing this?
