Treo on sale in February in US, this month in Europe

Donna Dubinskiy stated on a conference call this afternoon that the Treo will not start shipping in the US until February; Europeans will get the unit early.

After years of clamoring for the same upgradability from Visor/Deluxe to Platinum/Prism, it looks like Handspring's finally catching on: Offer the new stuff to your loyal followers at a discount.
Why didn't they do this sooner? And will the carriers be thrilled with this?
