Is it recommended that the Visor be backed up before installing? Does it take a minute to insert the battery?
Can it be recharged in Italy?

Absolutely! You should do this anytime you make a battery change... better to be safe than sorry.

Installing the FullCharge battery is a bit tricky. It's a very tight fit in the battery compartment and took me several attempts before I could get in installed. My recommendation is to keep a pair of batteries handy. If you're struggling to get the FC pack in, put in the regular ones, take a short break, and regroup. Then try again.

From the FullCharge FAQ's:

Orders are shipped USPS Priority Mail. We currently are only shipping to United States and Canada addresses.

AC adapter plugs into any standard 110 volt outlet

QUESTION: Is there going to be a 220 volt or European version?
ANSWER: Initially FullCharge will only be offered in North America.

If you haven't read it already, take a look at the FullCharge Review.

NiMH battery setting

The .7 shortcut on my wife's 2meg Visor only included Alkaline, Rechargeable, and NiCad battery options.

My Platinum, however, has a NiMH option. My VPl has a build date of November '00. It could simply be a feature in all visors built near or after that date, or possibly it's a feature of the v.3.5H1 OS.

Either way, you "might" be able to actually set your battery meter to NiMH when using the Fullcharge battery. I'm assuming the meter would be at least a little more accurate than using NiCad with NiMH batteries.
