Question

I was wondering if anyone has shop with this site, http://www.surplus.com.hk , in Hong Kong for after market replacement faceplate. I cracked my VDX from a couple of drops and now its falling apart. I've called Handspring for a replacement and they wanted to charge me $85 and this site have it for $20. Since this site is registered in HK, I was kind of vary. Anyone with any feedback will be great.

canosatien, I have a question for you. Have you ever been to Hongkong? It's the best place in the world. You better not be dissing it. HK is probably growing faster than your ignorance. Thank you.

Gee, that wasn't rude.

I'd be wary of purchasing things overseas let alone a place which has a somewhat shady reputation, sure it shouldn't be stereotyped like that, but it is. I'm carefull of buying many things online from stores I don't know much about, its good to see if other people have had good/bad experiences with them.

woah! Let's keep this calm here. I also am concerned when buying products from oversea vendors. It is a common concern, and I don't blame anyone else for having this concern. I think that vdxboy needs to calm down a little and completly understand the situation before posting a flame.

Wink buying in HK...

Please people! HK is great for certain things! But I wouldn't recommend buying anything expensive overseas! Why? No warranty, and NO returns. Heck I'd spend $20 bucks in a second for some aftermarket fifth party vendor product in a basement of a Kowloon suburb anyday!

faceplates

IM not sure, but i believe the product offered by the forementioned site, be it in HK or not, are only "Face"plates, which are covers that go over the front of the visor, pilots have the same thing available. I dont believe it is an actuall replacement for the case.

If you need a case, and it sounds like you do..check out www.gethightech.com

Thumbs up

Thanks to everyone that responded. My faceplate was cracked so bad that and handspring wanted to charge me a ridiculusly and silly $85, I had no choice but to order from Surplus. I had my doubt about this site but actually they came through. I've ordered the "Cool Silver" color. Looks pretty good and fit just right. I was hoping that the silver would be similar to the Visor Platinum but it was a shiny chrome instead. Its actually not too bad, I am sort of liking it now. The order arrived faster than I thought, exactly one week, eventhough it was sent directly from Hong Kong. My hats off to them for a fast and speedy delivery. The only complaint I have with them is their BADLY designed website, hope they will improve it in the future.

Backup and go to the Accessories discussion section - you'll see a lot of discussion on this there. I bought one - used my credit card - got it in exactly 1 week shipped airmail (no extra charge!!) and it worked great! Since then, they've improved the site to include graphical instructions - but changing it is really easy - about 15 minutes - but BACKUP YOUR VDX FIRST!!

I got the silver one - and it's a head turner - much shinnier than the platinum VDX - w/ all the different styles they have I might consider another one too! I only wish they made the back as well, but silver and ice look nice.

p.s. I've been to HK several times and it's my favorite city on earth (close tie with Venice). I knew that if a replacement case were to be made it would come from HK!

p.s.s. Customer support has been VERY supportive and QUICK! I mentioned that they should post pictures of how to install it and within days they did - and followed it up with an email, plus posted a link here!
