Visor refuses to synch. Mac OS 9.1

All of a sudden my visor has decided to stop letting itself be synched, it just times out and nothing happens.

I have tried completely reinstalling all of the desktop software, but this has made no difference.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance.

A co-worker has had no problems synch on Mac 8.6 and nothing but trouble once they upgraded her to 9.1. Had not been able to get a full synch since February. You might want to search in the troubleshooting forum - lots of threads some of the solutions worked for a while some didn't - all depends on your particular set up.

With that said - I recently saw a discussion in another group where several folks downloaded and installed the latest version 2.6.3 from Palm.

http://www.palm.com/support/macintosh/dtmac263.html

While it's not yet supported by Handspring all the users in the group were reporting success after installing this version.

We gave it a try and it has been synching fine since then.

Good Luck

Try a soft-reset while in the cradle. That sometimes does it.

Thanks, I just tried 2.6.3 without any luck, and the reset in cradle - which caused the two to start syncing before quiting as it was establishing comunication. Next time I tried this nothing again.

Any more ideas would be more than welcome.

Not sure what you mean by that. Before quiting what?

You may have a bum cradle, too...

and don't forget hardware

I tried synching on my new G4 TiBook and it quit after patially installing the new Wordsmith. So after cursing, warm resetting, etc. I took the USB straight into one of the two USB sockets on the backplane. Presto! Works fine now. It is not magic.

Exclamation Try this...

My Visor Deluxe syncs great with Mac OS 9.1 - using USB. I'm using Palm Desktop 2.6.3 and not Handspring's version. I think your problem is limited memory. Try increasing the memory allocation for the Conduit Manager program to 18MB. I know that this sounds high, but the conduit manager needs 2x the total memory of the Visor + 2MB to make sure that any size program or database can be Hotsynced to the Visor.

The first time we tried to synch using 2.6.3 it didn't work. The next step was to go into HotSync setup and change the speed to the lowest setting - also check which USB it's using - I think we changed it to Handspring. After that it synched.

Went back in and bumped it up to the next highest speed and and synched OK at the higher speed.

Good Luck

Well, it sounds like 2.6.3 is the thing to do. I have pulled all of the old instalations out of the system folder, trashed the palm folder, trashed all the Avant go stuff on my visor and on the mac and will try a 'clean install'.
