I looked at ath Sieko SmartPad for the Palm - and can't wait to get my hands on one. I called Seiko, but the infobabes have no idea when or if one is being made for the Visor.

It might work already...

Looking at the Seiko SmartPad, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't already work with the Visor (with limitations). It doesn't use the serial port, it uses IR, so the connector is not an issue. All Seiko needs to do is make the cord longer and let you place it on the side.

In the mean time, if the SmartPad does not maintain a constant connection to the Palm device (I've never seen one working, so I'm not sure exactly how it works), the only hiccup is that you would need to turn your Visor to line up the IR ports when you wanted to beam from the SmartPad to the Visor. If it does maintain a constant connection, then you'll just have to leave everything flat on a table (so it doesn't slip around and break the IR link) and orient your Visor sideways. I don't see any either reasons why it would not work.

Since my first post I have found other posts regarding the Smart Pad. However, for what I will use for, the Visor must be locked down. I will use it at meetings, desk for quick notes to write down later or another day, and most importantly, doing job estimates where I will be standing with a client doing walk throughs. So, I need the visor locked down, in addition to other software I will be running on the visor to assist in completeing my estimates.

I've got a Seiko Smart Pad that if you wanted to buy I'd sell fairly cheap. It is for a Palm but you should be able to take and 90 degree a Visor and using some velcro - hold it in place.

It's in the box and I used it for about 3 hours so everything is intact. The signal width on the infrared pickup will probably function without a hitch.

Constant connection

Yes, the Visor and SmartPad must keep a constant IR connection while drawing/writing on the pad.

As I've stated on other SmartPad threads, it was an interesting novelty item for me.

Why would someone need a SmartPad? If you write something in a piece of paper why would you want it to be in your Palm?
