Question

Hi all,

just started this thread to see if anyone named their Visor. I decided to start naming my computer(s) after reading Chaos Manor in BYTE (r.i.p.) magazine. I named my IVDx "Glasgow" for no apparent reason
Anyone else have a name for their Visor?

The only name my Visor has, it the user name... Is this one of those "guy" things?

Wink

I used to name my hardware, but gave it up in the late '80s. The personification just increased my separation anxiety whenever I would upgrade.

Maybe not. I'm a "guy", and mine just uses my name. I guess that would make it my "Mini Me", but I still don't call it that.

heh...that's sound like a good reason.

don't you think these machines that take up so much of our time and energy and help us oh so much deserve names?

so, since i had already named the computer a basic name that describes him pretty well: beepy), my girl and i would refer to him as such. when my visor came along, i realized that as a constant companion, he certainly deserved a name, and i feel a little weird talking about it to my girl (as i do maybe a little too often...) as a machine, so his desktop icon was named li'l beepy, and the rest is history.

and li'l beepy is so damn temperamental... he deserves a name.

I think I'll go with daryl on this and can't really say if this is a guy thing or not. I guess my visor can be identified as "The Visor With No Name". Hmmm did I just type that?

I actually thought of naming my PDA Daryl. (no offense to any Daryl's out there!)

This is my PDA Daryl and this is my other PDA Daryl.....(ok, so maybe I'm the only one who thinks this is funny, but it is!!!)

Be careful ... girls can be _very_ jealous - even if it is only a piece of plastic and electronic parts. But I guess giving your Visor a girl's name would make it even worse.
Imagine answering to the question "What did you do yesterday? I called you and you said you don't want to go out because you do not feel so well..." and you spend the whole evening in bed reading ebooks or AvantGo on your Visor ... and you answer: "I spent the whole evening in bed with Rachel/Lisa/Susan/whatever_your_Visors_name_is 'reading'." I can imagine the reaction !

Sorry, this was way off topic, but I guess my fantasy was running a little wild...

... as always

My Visor is named "Smithers" after Mr. Burns' assistant on the Simpsons. I'm not sure if I'll become as dependent on my Smithers as Mr. Burns is on his...

Unless you don't equate guy with male, I'd have to disagree. I don't consider a PDA anything like a girlfriend (or wife in my case). If others do, they've either got some potentially hot selling springboards that no one knows about, or they need to get out a bit more.
