Magellan and maps

At last I got a review of the Handy GPS Pro. My one question is, can my Magellan work with Rand McNally Street Finder, or other map programs, and if so, what are the best ones you've found.

Thanks for the help

Mapopolis 3.0

I use Mapopolis 3.0 beta with my Magellan GPS. Having used both the Magellan mapping program and the Mapopolis, I find that the Mapopolis maps are a lot more readable and user friendly on my Prism. Mapopolis 3.0 also works with my compact flash card adapter, allowing me to carry all the maps I need in compact flash and copy them to the Prism when needed. The Magellan requires a laptop with a CD to transfer maps to the Prism.

Hi,
PMJI, but I am having a bit of trouble when using mapopolis 3 beta with my Magellan module. Whenever I go to the menu it says my GPS is not running. Then I click on start GPS and I get a fetal exception. It sounds like yours is running fine and I wondered if you have any idea what I am doing wrong (I purchases several maps too...). BTW, I am using an 8mb visor deluxe.
Thanks
Gene

Try the following to see if it works for you:
* Did you flash the new update to the module? If not, go to http://www.magellangps.com

* Did you try soft-reset the Visor and see if it works? If you have hack installed, try disable them.

* How long ago did you have your deluxe? If it was the first release, you might have radio interference. Call Handspring for a replacement.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I did update the module, no difference. I am not using any hacks and the GPS works fine with the supplied software from Magellan so I don't think RF is a problem. Seems to be somthing with the software. At first I thought it maybe did not work with the GPS modules, only those using the serial connections but when one of the original posters here seemed to be using my same configuration I wondered why mine didnt work. Thanks
Gene

Try this one. Did you get a lock using the Magellan software? Make sure you did get a lock, then run Mapopolis 3.0 beta. What version of Mapopolis 3.0 Beta are you running? I am running 3.0.3 beta. The first beta version I heard has problems running Magellan modules.
