I cant believe that after just a few weeks that my screen is covered in scratches from the original stylus!!! Has anyone else had this same problem?

Fortunately Handspring sent me the wrong color VXD and so I am waiting for a replacement. However, what am I supposed to do once I get the new one, just wait for its stylus to ALSO scratch the screen, I think NOT? I called Handspring and the person I talked to was not very helpful. He just said that only a "small percent" of them had any problem and so I should plan on using the stylus that comes with my replacment!!! He very evidently is not a PDA user or he would have understood how serious this is.

Hey Handspring, if you are out there , it would seem that you should provide a little bit better "customer service" for us loyal initial customers that are betting on you? Any chance you of doing us right and providing a basic stylus upgrade for all the trouble and waiting on the phone I, and others, are going through? Remember that a little attention goes a lonnnngggg way!!!

many many many many people have complained about the stylus that comes with the handspring. It seems there is a burr on the tip causing the problem. Some have had their Visor replaced under warranty because of the damage the stock stylus has caused. Handspring is now saying the problem has been corrected. Many people are buying after market styli and/or using WriteRights ( clear film you place over your screen)
available at a variety of stores and websites. Try www.palmgear.com

Well..my thread about PDA Panache Issues seems to have disappeared. But anyway, from what others have said PDA Panache makes a nice stylus (www.pdapanache.com). Unfortunately I received this e-mail shortly after I placed my order:

quote:
We deeply regret that our custom stylus for the HandSpring Visor models:
VIS-B, black and VIS-C, chrome are out-of-stock at this time.

Our expected re-stock date for these products is currently 2 to 3 weeks.

I think I'll stick it out and be very careful with the evil stylus until then

Do what ever you can to get hold of polishing paper for fiber optics. When the stylus arrives, scrape the flashes of plastic from the side with an xacto knife and then polish on the finest grade wet/dry sandpaper you can get. From there go to the fiber optic paper. Keep it all wet at all times and if you've got the time and the right paper, you can get a glass-smooth finish on the stylus tip (that IS what the paper's for after all!). I had to do this to the stock stylus AND the metal bodied replacements. Both had the burrs down the sides and all the way around the tip. It is poor moulding by Handsprings suppliers and I wouldn't believe that only a few have the problem or that it has been fixed. My advise - don't trust them to fix it. Polish it yourself until you are happy that it won't do damage. (that and get some WriteRights..!)

I've been dealing with someone in management at Handspring. Very responsive. He says many many styli went out the door with a defect. They will replace the screen or the whole unit (and send you repl styli).

Read my thread "[email protected]" for contact info. Also the thread Stylus Scratches Screen gives others tips for dealing with this.

Basic problem with their Customer Support is that they've outsourced it to a 3rd party that really doesn't know the product yet. They're coming up to speed. Handspring management seems to be very responsive though. They are aware of the issues.

I also recommend getting WriteRights and the PDAPanache Stylus. I just got both today and they're great!
