I know this is a spoiler question, but who was killed?

I'm not gonna read the book, and don't want to wait for the movie.

Private message me if you want.

Out of curiosity, I checked Kazaa last Monday, two days after the book was released. And, fair enough, the book was there, the real version, all 38 chapters, I compared it to the original printed copy (there are at dozens of fake versions as well). Isn't it surprising how much energy some people put into making ebooks and publishing them worldwide?

Personally, I think it is fair (and also legal as far as I know) to make an ebook out of a book you own anyway. So why don't you do the following: buy a printed copy, download the pdf or doc version from Kazaa or eDonkey (try the "UK version" rtf-format file), and reformat it for the Palm. You can get a free conversion tool from Adobe (Adobe Reader for Palm OS).

I bet 10:1 that there will never be an official Potter ebook, so this seems to be the only way for me.

Thats what I did, I read the hardcover, but have a backup in my clie, which I can read when I'm bored in the bus..
Since I bought the book I consider it legal.. even though technically it may not be.. but untill there is a legal eBook there is no other way...

Are you sure that was really the real book? There must be hundreds of files called "HP5 -Order of the Phoenix", many of them labelled "real, the only real one, the original, published as of 6/23/03" etc., but almost all of them are fake.

Yep, there were 2 versions... the real one and a fan fiction one...
Got the real one and it is the same as the book.. but has some OCR errors (1 instead of I etc)..

I think it probably is legal. Even if it isn't, it's surely the honest way to do it. Good job.

So someone only took two hours to buy the book, scan the 700+ pages, and upload it on the internet. That is fast I, have to say.

Thats what I thought too, here are my theories:
-Have a automatic sheetfeeder and butcher the book so the cover is gone and you you only have single sheets.
That way you can scan and OCR pretty quickly...
-Remember a lot of books got stolen or sold before the official date... so they may hav had more time..

Many stores had the boxes of books for some days ahead of time. I would be willing to bet that many of these stores let employees have early copies.

Also, there are a LOT of people involved in the publishing. I would not doubt it a bit if the good copy came from there- that is the biggest 'security' leak with movies, after all.

Boring Harry Potter?

After the formating/ebook aspects have been solved, I have to say that I am getting bored with Harry Potter. After having read the first 13 chapters, I am not sure whether I will finish.

Harry is constantly in a bad mood - who wants to spend time with someone in a bad mood?

It is always the same: school routine, boring lessons, homework, Quidditch, Snape despises Harry, phantasy prone Trewlaney, etc. All this works for one or two books but not for three or more, if you ask me (I have read two so far).

I was never a particular fan, but somehow I found the end of each book interesting enough to start the next one eventually, but I guess that is over now.... serves me right if I read books for children I guess...

Not that far yet, but I agree on the bad mood thing... this book seems to be a lot darker then the other ones...
Harry seems to be a bit more egocentric and frustrated it this one...

More dark probably, but not the fantastic "Lord of the Rings" darkness, more the darkness of not being invited to a teenager party, IMHO.

Yeah, but I think most 15 year old boys are...or at least, that's my guess.

Not my favorite of them, but still pretty good.

I love some of MacGonnagal's lines.
