Unhappy

I am unable to hot sync AT ALL, I was fine until last night.... So far I have uninstalled and reinstalled Palm desktop from the disc. then handspring suggested downloading it from their site which I did and that didn't work either... Any one have any ideas or suggestions? I'm at a total loss.
Thanks
Vicki

Have you tried a soft reset of the Platinum?

I have tried a soft reset Mark and it didn't help. The error says that that the communication between the handheld and the PC cannot be established????? HS Support felt that it was a USB port problem with the computer but of course the Dell tech, says NO it isn't! hmmm
Thanks for your suggestion.... I appreciate any and all help.
Thanks again
Vicki

I don't know why this would work but... I had problems synicing with my work computer, keep getting the same error message as you. Soft reset would work but I didn't want to do that twice each day! I finally download the new Palm 4.01 and the problem went away. I do get an error message that the system files couldn't be backed up - which makes sense since the Visor OS is not part of the RAM.

Like I say, I don't know why it would work but it might be worth a try.

That didn't do it either, thank you for the suggestion though.

Try removing the sotware from your computer, restart the computer (to clean the program from memory) then reinstal using the latest software downloaded from Handspring.

I had a similar problem with my Platnum, well not Platnum, but USB port for it. I think I installed some kind of program or something.
Try to disconnect the cradle from USB port and restart computer. Then connect the cradle to second USB port(if U have one). This might force computer reinitialize the USB port.
I'm not sure how it all works, but cradle worked after that.

I had the same problem

And there was no real solution for me like uninstall, then re-install. What I did was to make sure that my Visor was sitting in it's cradle correctly, all the way so that it clicks, and that the USB cable wasn't loose. Also see to it that there is no dust or fuzzies on the bottom port of your Visor, blow on it or something. After I did all that, my Platinum synched just fine.

Long-winded attempt to help

I have syncing problems when: my computer has been on for an extended period of time. The fix I have found is to soft reset VDX and use "Reset" button on desktop. (I have a USB cradle.)

Also, I have had the following problem (that I may have trouble getting across):
After attempting to install apps that "automatically" place themselves into HotSync program and tell you to hot sync right then (e.g. WordSmith) as opposed to apps that download onto desktop hard drive and wait for you to double-click their icon to put it into HotSync, I have had to uninstall Palm programs/Hot Sync off of desktop and reinstall before it would sync again--

Did you try to install any programs before syncing issues began?

Talking Thank You Everyone

I just wanted to thank everyone for all your help. Handspring and Dell tech support finally wore me down and I reformatted my computer.... I am able to sync right now so perhaps they were right , I guess i'll never know for sure...... At any rate I probably needed to do that for some other minor inconveniences too and all is well that ends well right?
Thanks again
Vicki
