Question

Hi everyone,

I currently own a Palm III and I'm looking to get something new. I am torn between a Palm IIIx and the Visor Deluxe.

My main concerns are:

Waiting for Visor to arrive (4-6 weeks!)

Visors are new and will undoubtedly have problems

Is handspring going to be around for a long time?

What I really like about the Visor is:

Very reasonable price

Lots of RAM

Springboards! (I really want to see the MP3 player!)

Cool colors/cases

People seem very interested

Earlier this year, I bought a laptop from a small company that had very favorable reviews from their users. I happened to value user's opinions a lot more than big magazine reviews and such so I bought one. In August the company went out of business and I will forever have doubts about buying from a small company again.

I know that if I buy a Palm IIIx, I will have support for a long time and it will be reliable. What a dilemma!

Can anyone provide some more insight?

Cool

Concerns abated:
A. It's worth it! I waited five weeks, but some people who ordered last week are getting theirs now. (mine came 10/20)
B. None so far. This is not the first time around for Hawkins and Dubinsky.
C. Will Palm? Remember who founded both companies. They leave Palm, innovation in the market is stagnant, they introduce Visor...

B. You definitely won't regret having 8MB.
C. Have you seen all the developers lined up to introduce springboards?! I can't wait to see them in stores. It only takes one to be the killer app.
D. Graphite's the best!
E. For good reason!
F. Superior screen (to the IIIx)
G. Two words: Jeff Hawkins

I own a IIIx. Just some neutral comments:

Your main concerns are:

Waiting for Visor to arrive (4-6 weeks!)
IIIx you can buy today.

Visors are new and will undoubtedly have problems
Maybe. Maybe not. Fact is they are very close to IIIx and I presume there are no defects. If there are, you will read it here. Trust me.

Is handspring going to be around for a long time?
Why not? They have some starting problems, but I'm sure they will solve it sooner or later.

What you really like about the Visor is:

Very reasonable price
Lots of RAM

IIIx is $199, add 8Mb and you get the visor price.

Springboards! (I really want to see the MP3 player!)
The MP3 board is too expensive. We just finished the Hong Kong electronics fair last week and I tell you the market will be flooded very soon with stand-alone MP3 player. Volume price now is in the US$50 range.

Cool colors/cases
How about a new one for the IIIx?

If you're not too tight I suggest:

1.Buy a cheap IIIx now for <$199
2.Buy a Visor once it hits the shops early next year.

Wink

Thank you all for the speedy replies! Today was pay day so I took the plunge and got an awesome deal on a IIIx.

I think I'm going to wait a little bit on a Visor but I'm definitely going to get one.

About those clear cases for the Palm Pilots... Anyone ever get one of those from www.palmcolors.com ? I ordered one and they said the date for shipping would be in June and it just kept getting pushed further and further back. I'm curious if they actually have them now.

Thanks again!
