Question

Has anyone heard whether Visor is planning on a Vx format Visor? I realize it would probably lose the Springboard slot, but maybe they could beat Palm to the punch on a color screen version.

If you were to lose the springboard, there would be no point in getting a Visor. Buy the Palm Vx or Sony CLIE instead.

I don't know if I would go as far as saying there would be no point in the Visor "V" if it lost the SB, but I do think that it would not be widly accepted. If Sony can make another slim design, then what says Handspring can't?

I think Handspring is going to continue to include the Springboard in all future devices as it is one of their key selling points. Jeff Hawkins knows that a large portion of the PDA market is focused on simplicity, so he will most likely stick with an expansion standard. Who knows, maybe they can make a PalmV-like device with a springboard port in it (a little thicker).

i vaguely remember reading an interview with Hawkins (i think it was the Red Herring one) where he stated that Handspring would be introducing computers of various sizes and some without the springboard slot...my first assumption was larger (web tablet) but this sounds like it would work too...

Lightbulb Shrinking

With electronics getting smaller all the time, they ought to be able to fit all the electronics needed to run a Visor (minus the screen stuff) into one side of one circuit board. If they could, and they could make the board about half the height of the Visor...yeah, they could make a Palm V competitor with an SB module. Of course, I'm not accounting for batteries...perhaps they could fit them in going up one side? Or something? Am I just crazy? :^)

My guess is next year this time they'll have a color and B&W Palm V sized springboard capable Visor. Based on how long it took them to get the Prism and platinum out.

They'll be awesome when they're here though!

Yes, but Carl (Palm CEO) has stated that they will have a Color Palm V sized device by this time next year!

That's the difference between Palm and Handspring: Handspring doesn't make (most) annoucements until the product is almost out (they've been working on the visor phone since they released the visor)

True, I think Handspring has a lot of cool gadgets coming our way! Can't wait to see what they release next!
