The web sites are better IMHO because they can be moderated and set rules and standards. It is not the free for all that exists in the alt*.* forums. Some web sites are not well done, and that's a problem, in which case competitors arise. But a well done web site these days is to me far more readable, easier to use and better moderated than newsgroups. I also tend not to get as much junk mail, but that's another story.
I agree. I think that VC is a great resource for all the Visor information you need (as opposed to some other Visor-themed sites) and once the software archives are working [hint, hint!], you get everything in one place!!!
I know that there are some people that do not like the idea of having discussion groups similar to the Usenet newsgroups on the web, but I think that this is the way it is going to be. It is, ,especially for the not-so-computer-savvy, much easier to handle, and you do not need a separate program to access the resources. I know, you can always use deja.com and the like, but I do not think that this is a good alternative.
In addition, it is much easier using HTML to link to relevant information and sites or include pictures.
Just my 2 cents...
