MMC Formatting? MiniJam to Panasonic iPALM?

I can't use the MMC card that was provided with my MiniJam on my iPALM digital camera. (Panasonic PV-DC3000) It says Memory Card Error, and it wont even let me format it.

What can I do to get this card working with the iPalm!?!?

Thanks!
Ara

My handera did the same thing at first but when I told it to try and access it a second time it figured out that it needed to be formatted. The minijam uses a proprietary format for their mp3's and therefore their formatting of the cards is not compatible with any other device. If you can find something else that can read MMC's and can format as well (e.g. Handera, M50x, M125, Computer memory reader, etc) use that rather than your camera.

Ok, well I formatted it with a SD/MMC USB Reader and Writer. Formatted it to FAT format. Still doesn't work...do you think Panasonic has some special time of file structure? Do I need to order their MMC reader/writer? $80! OUCH

That could very well be. I would check to see if the camera won't format on it's own(Mine does as well as my Mom's). If you can't find it then call their tech support. Hopefully formatting with their $80 device won't be the solution.

i think i know why you're having the problem... is the MMC you're trying to reformat an "InnoGear" -labelled MMC? Part Number (P/N) 190091-0x, perhaps??

if you answer "yes" to both of the above questions, the answer to your problem is that those MMCs are secure-digital format cards and for whatever reason, they cannot be used in a device that was not designed to use secure-digital...

i just figured out the above because i am experiencing the exact-same problem, and i noticed that os x 10.1 disk utility identifies the card as an "eUSB Secure Digital Media" when i put it into the ZIO! MMC reader...

curses! innogear strikes again!!

My 64MB innogear mmc card is P/N 190091-02 and it formats fine with my Handera.

embarassed to admit it, but i didn't know what a "handera" was so i visited http://www.handera.com
very cute: handera = hand-era
anyway.
the handera is *designed* to work with cards in secure-digital (SD) format, so the fact that it works for you is as it should be.
