Question Best CF for MemPlug-CF

Just order a MemPlug-CF. Beside the 32M I have now, I am thinking to buy a new CF for it. Anyone has any idea which one is the best for MemPlug-CF!? Has anyone get his MemPlug-CF already? Any comments?

Hi Q-Won, I have a SanDisk 64M and a PNY 32M, I use them with my MemPlug CF, they work OK.

However, before you decide to buy which brand of CF card, you better read their CF compatibility list first! Because some brands of CF card may not be compatible with it (just like the MatchBook Drive, they both have compatibility problems). I am quite sure those CFs from Lexar won't work.

You can find their CF compatibility list here:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/memplug/database

Hope it helps.

OIC, for those compatible CF. Which one is the best? Or all of them are same?

Has anyone compare the PowerRun+FlashPlus and PiDirect+MemPlugCF??

I want to know which one is faster. Dave always emphasis that they can also get the record from file one by one. Therefore, the speed of them should be very close. We can compare the software technology of these two companies. It is exciting !! Speed Race start!!

I use PiDirect and read a 2Mb document from the MemPlugSM, and it uses few seconds to show the document. Maybe PowerRunFlashPlue even use lesser time!!

Can anyone tell me the result and share their experience ??

cool!!

PS. I post this article on the thread "MemPlug available in PalmGear" first but i found that the thread was removed. Therefore, i repost in under this thread. Hope you guys don't mind read this post twice...

Well, for one thing you'd be comparing beta software vs. release software and that can give you very misleading results. For another, you would be comparing "apples to oranges".

PowerRUN is a way to support non-VFS enabled applications on a system with VFS, but it's not the way VFS is "meant" to be used. It reads the entire database to RAM and copies it back to CF when you exit the app. It's guaranteed to be slower than PiDirect (though it does let you modify the database which PiDirect will not).

As I've said before, PiDirect is (for the most part) a better solution if you are working with older non-VFS enabled apps. VFS wasn't designed to support old apps, it was designed to support new ones. A better comparison would be to test something like Peanut Reader or Adobe Acrobat Reader (which have built in VFS support and don't need PowerRUN) on both systems.

VFS Support (somewhat off topic, but not bad)

I'm trying to use the beta VFS for a CF card, and tried the splashphoto version that is supposed to work with having the photos on the cf card. Is there anything special you need to do to have the hacked launcher three see apps on the cf card? Or to be able to place the photos on CF and the app in RAM?

Really don't mind. I also love to watch speed race. Does one has MemPlug /w PiDirect and also FlashPlus /VFS? Any users experience comments on both?

However, I still want to know which CF is the best.

I love speed race too! But I think we shouldn't compare MemPlug/PiDirect and FlashPlus/PowerRun, they work differently, it is not fair. I suggest we compare MemPlug/PiDirect and FlashPlus/MsMount, these 2 combinations should work similarly. Any comment?

To be honest, I haven't even had a chance to test SplashPhoto - I just know that users have reported that it works. For LauncherIII to see the SplashPhoto app, just use FAFileMover to copy the app to the /PALM/Launcher directory on the CF card. According to user reports, when you run SplashPhoto it can automatically copy its picture databases to the CF card.

To get more info from people who've actually used SplashPhoto, post your question to the flashadapter-forum at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/flash...-forum/messages
