Unhappy

Anyone have any insight on opening up visor case. I dropped unit and broke glass, now no response on touch screen. I'm sure there is uneven pressure caused by glass shift. I think if I remove glass and provide interim screen, maybe some kind of transparency, I could get things working. Any ideas or direction would be greatly appreciated!!

I supposedly have replacement on way, but really don't have much faith in getting one all too soon.

I think you're out of luck... the way I understand it, the screen is a sandwich of glass and the "membrane" that makes up the touch grid. A break in the glass probably almost certainly breaks the grid as well. You're just going to have to wait for HS to send that replacement.

I had to open my BDx once. A piece of plastic broke off inside and lodged itself under the power button. I had to press hard to turn it on or off. Being the adventurer I knew I could fix it myself instead of waiting for Handspring to send me a new one. (I'd probably still be waiting!) It was a cinch--four screws and it pretty much comes apart. Found the plastic and reassembled it. Voila! But I may have to take it apart again or send it in. It appears the screen has come loose and each time I press it goes a little deeper into the case. Anyone else have this problem?

There's not much you can do about the front piece of glass. As somebody has already pointed out, it is part of the digitizer and a crack in the glass means a break in the circuit.

Now, if you had a Palm (PIII or greater), you could cannibalize the resistive screen out of that and plug it into the Visor.

Disassembly is pretty simple- remove the four screws (two in the springboard bay), snap the thing apart, being careful to unplug the cable between the two halves. To get to the digitizer, simply unsnap the LCD at the sides and pull it out, being careful of the two plastic posts at the top.

Use a knife blade around the perimiter of the glass (between the glass and metal frame) to loosen the adhesive joint (it only goes in a few millimeters) and remove the digitizer (unplug it too).

Swendor: it seems like your Visor simply isn't snapped into the plastic at the bottom- merely take it apart and make sure to snap the metal frame under the catches on the lower sides of the plastic.
