2 drops & counting...

Well, the other day my Prism hit the floor with a sickening thud for the second time in about a year...

The first time I went to put it in the inside breast pocket of a jacket that was hanging on the back of a chair. Said pocket did not have a bottom, and Visor went about 2.5 feet to the floor. Thankfully, all was OK.

Second time my wife asked me to pass it to her so she could play a game of Solitaire (she's hooked)...I handed it to her, she fumbled it, and it dropped about 3.5 feet to the floor...

First time it was in the Handspring case that it came with, second time no case at all...

I'm really pushing my luck here...maybe Handspring could send me units and I could be a "punishment tester"....

So far, no cracks, scratches, etc. Seems to be a tough little beggar...

Dropped

I dropped mine once. The other day in it's case (Vaja) from about 3 feet onto the cement. Didn't even give it much thought. The Prism case cracked between the power button and the screen in a diagonal direction. Something that can be glued from the inside. These things are like a new car, after the first scratch or paint problem, it's no big deal.

I dropped mine today, in it's EB Slipper Case. When I turned it on afterwards, it was very dim and flickering badly. I gave it a healthy smack with my hand, and all is well!

Whew! That was a close one!

Unhappy Waaah!

I just dropped mine from about 4 feet onto the kitchen tile floor! Two nasty cracks across the grafitti area, and the screen controls no longer work. Now I have to decide what to do about it. *sniff* Any suggestions??

hmm I've tortured my visors enough to warrent some replies

I have STOPEPD dropping my visors, but I used to do it on a regular basis... *sigh*

Several times it dropped from my bed onto the wood floor - enventually the case cracked badly. No internal damage, I siltl got a replacement though

The big dropthough which really hurt me was this:

I was enterintg some data, and going down the basement steps. Very gritty sandy, area, and steep. I tripped, visor flew out of my hands, and as I took balance, I watched it BOUNCE on it's edge the entire way down. Hit the concrete wall, and fall backwards. No LCD crackage, but my IR port fell off the motherboard, and the screen wouldn't turn on anymore. I eventualyl ofund out that I screwed up the "backlight" on the prism, and so while it had color, it needed super bright light to reflect the image - dind't work to well. I got a new one... that was scary though!

I've foudn that the prism screen is MUCH more durable than ANY other visor screen - thank god for that!

Unhappy Maybe There's An Upside?

In memoriam - Ice Visor Deluxe (my first, sniff) 10/2000 to 12/2001

I've regularly dropped my VDX from a sitting position to the floor, but this last time it bounced a few times on the way down. Nothing was cracked, but the digitizer was WAAY off (tap on right, registers on left; tap left, nothing.) I had to do a hard reset to get the digitizer up, but to no avail. Nothing would get it back.

In desperation, I opened the case (that little screwdriver came in handy for once) and after seeing nothing obviously out of whack, I proceeded to crack the screen across the graffiti area. Arrrgh!

I'm not the Mr. Fix-It type normally, but I assumed I was SOL on the warranty (see the 14 month life-span noted above) so I had nothing to lose other than spare parts for my next Visor.

Technically, this isn't a Prism story, but now that I need a new Visor, I'm saving up to buy one (especially since Mall-Wort/Wal-Mart has them for just under $250!!)

All's well that ends well?

Ok... so I just got my replacement Prism today (just in time for Christmas, hurray!). It looks brand new; I don't know if it's new or refurbished. The only problem is, there's one little pixel that seems defective. Has anyone else had this problem? Of course, Handspring is closed in observance of the holidays, so I guess I have to wait until Wednesday to complain! Still... there's nothing stopping me from playing with it in the interim!
