Treo Killer

Well, HS has dumped the Prism and as I see it, will probably dump the rest of its springboard Visors in the next 6-9 months as they become increasingly obsolete. They have thrown their lot in totally with the new Treo - and it seems to be coming up short.

The new Kyocera 7135. a phone that is 153k CDMA 2000 1x capabe out of the box, has an MP3 player built in, 16MB RAM, Color display, and an SD / MMC slot that is SDIO capable (ie can use things like an SDIO bluetooth card, or 802.11 card).

Price is $499 retail.

Bye-bye, handspring. You made the dumbest and yet most common mistake - you betrayed a loyal customer base (the Visor / Springboard users).

Jeez.

You think you are the first person to mention this "treo killer"?

BTW, if handspring were making any real money with the springboards, they would still be making devices that would use them.

DON"T YOU THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Treo 600 is my phone, my PDA, my watch, and my MP3 player. Oh yeah, I take a picture once in a while with it. Convergence is such a great thing.

Nope. There's been Palm/Phone hybrids out for a while, gathering dust on the shelves of Best Buys throughout this great nation, and still Handspring enters the fray. I have seen one PDA/phone hybrid (a samsung) actullay in use in the past two years, versus innumberable Palm Pilots/ WinCe/Visors and cell phones. Handspring is playing to a market that has yet to exist, if ever.

BTW, if handspring were making any real money with the springboards, they would still be making devices that would use them.

The springboard got done in, IMO, by the sheer volume of vapourware modules, and not by Handspring not making $ off of them, and the inablility to upgrade the OS.
(Bright move. Flexibility on the hardware end, stagnation on the software end. D'oh!)
Allowing people to configure their PDA into whatever device they want is a better solution in the long-term than forcing them in a frankenstein-like contraption with a lousy sales record.

DON"T YOU THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is thinking? All caps and a dozen exclamation points? More information and less exclamation may make your point better next time.

The Treo works for you. Good. For myself, and many others, though, it's not what we want/need from a PDA, and Handspring, in going this direction, has thrown us to the wolves.

The springboard was a great concept. Instead of an all in one handheld, you got to pick and choose what you wanted to add.

Unfortunatley, very few users added anything.

Other then people who visit here I know of no one who if they have a handspring has a springboard add on.

What springboard wasn't made because the os could not handle it.

How many of these vapor springboard were because the compay who announced them decided there wasn't any money in making it? I'm sure most.

The Phone\PDa hybrid is a market that seems to getting a lot of attention lately. Even Microsoft wants a part of it. The PDa market didn't exist until someone madea product people could use and wanted to use.

Handspring thinks they came of with a model that will do that.

How is handspring throwing you to the WOLVES? You have their PDA use it. Are the making you stay with your current PDA. I don't think so.

You don't like there new product line move on.

BTW, thanks for counting the exclamation points. I do get paid by the character.
