Backup module & new Edge

Can I take the backup module from my VDX and put it into a new Edge (trade-in program) and copy all of my previous data and programs into the new device or will this cause problems?

Thanks for any replies,

John

Turn off all your hacks. If you loaded the fix for the VDX from HS, I don't think that should cause problems (it didn't for me), but if it does, I'm pretty sure you can do a warm reset (reset while holding the UP button), and then delete it with Z'Catalog. Do a soft reset. Back it up, then try it on the edge!

Good Luck!!

This basic procedure is what I followed as well. I turned off and removed the hacks I was running (as well as any programs which I didn't need any more). I also did a warm reset and removed the Handspring update. Backed it up and restored to my Edge. The old version of AlbumToGo caused me a soft reset or two, but after removing it, everything was fine.

Very similar procedure I followed when upgrading from my prism. Warm reset, removed graffiti update, backed up, restored. HS tech support said removing the update wasn't necessary, but better safe than sorry. What's the reason for disabling/deleting hacks?

They became superfluous in my case. The only hacks I had were a battery meter (which is sort of irrelevant with a rechargeable battery which is going to be topped off every day or two), and menu hack (which 3.5.2H has built in).

I didn't delete, just disabled. ... Better safe than sorry, I guess...
