Exclamation

Excuse me, but I've been looking at my visor BVX and it has come to my attention that exposed metal contacts should start experiencing problem once they become oxide.

I guess I better get my emory cloth ready.

They dont oxidize unless they're iron or some other metals. If you're talking about the green circut board then don't worry those dont oxidize. Besides most metals don't rust unless they're subjected to a lot of humidity or if they're iron.

All of the Palm units that have been sold in the last few years are still functioning plus many of the CE devices. I wouldn't worry about oxidation even if the brass contacts could rust. Odds are you'll replace the Visor in 10 years or so due to another failure and not the contacts.

Don't forget, if you're talking about the contacts used for hot-syncing, the friction of inserting/removing the Visor into the cradle should contribute to reduction of oxides.

It seems to me I read (and it looks like it too) that the contacts are gold plated, so they won't corrode.

Chances are, in 10 years the Visor will look like a slide rule does today.

I never had any problems with the contacts on my Atari or Vic20 <pausing for a sentimental sigh> cartriges getting oxidized. I don't think it'll happen with Springboards either.
