The problems that i'm having are:
1) Having to press incredibly hard before getting response from tap.
2) Grafiti seems to be off.
3) Small artifact in center of screen from when i stored in leather pouch. (like fluid under screen)

Anyone else having problems. I notified Handspring and they are shipping a replacement. But otherwise it is awesome.
Maybe this was just a bad seed. Because i'm a big Visor fan.
Anyone with suggestions on whats going on with it?

I know some Palm IIIc users reported that they had to press very hard with the brightness on the screen turned all the way up, and that turning it down helped. You'll want to turn the brightness down anyway, as it greatly increases battery life.

That said, I didn't have any such problems with my Prism, so it's good that you're getting a replacement.

I've observed that a little more pressure is needed with the Prism than with the VDx.

I've also observed that Graffiti seems a little inaccurate. (I'm going to do a test with EchoHack to see what I get.) I calibrated the digitizer just a smidge lower than the targets on-screen. This seemed to be an acceptable fix, and it got rid of the placement problems I was having with Fitaly. (Calibrate too much though and you'll notice, in stickynote apps like Diddlebug and BugMe, that your ink will appear above the point of contact.)

I have the exact same problem!
I already asked for my replacement.
It is great, otherwise.
I installed tealecho and it shows that it responds
sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't.

I used the grafitti help app (I didn't think of
this, since i have been "graffiting" for about 4 years
now) and it shows how bad of a recognition it has.

The letter side of the prism is horrible, but the
number side works like it should. I have turned
the contrast ALL THE WAY DOWN (which still looks good,
btw) and while it helps a little, it is nowhere near
any other device.
I tested on my palm 3, on my visor deluxe, even my
old pilotpro, and they all worked!

Waiting for replacement to see if that was the problem

Even more problems with PRISM!

Now..I can't hotsync! At least, not to Outlook!
I use my deluxe, syncs find (using the prism cradle)
I use my prism, crashes everytime.
I backed up my prism, restored it on the deluxe,
deluxe still syncs.
Prism doesn't.

Wipe out prism, it syncs! werid.

Kyp,

I'd guess it's something left over from your Visor Deluxe that the Prism isn't liking. Try this:

1) Rename your "backup" directory in the Palm Desktop directory to something like BackupOld, and then create a new, empty Backup directory.

2) Do a hard-reset on your Prism.

3) HotSync the Prism. Because of Step 1, it will sync your address/todo/etc. data, but not your programs.

4) Reinstall your applications on the Prism.

Your problem might be related to some old application or Preferences data that's getting moved to the Prism from your Visor Deluxe's backup directory.

Worth a try, anyway. I've seen stuff like this happen with the Palm OS when upgrading from a different unit.

Post that's what I had to do also

the procedure above is almost exactly what I had to do, I went ahead and removed backupbuddy though. Once I did a successful hotsync of the main apps, hotsync'ed, installed a few apps, hotsync'ed and so on till it was stable. Then reinstalled backupbuddy and got a good full backup as always...

Thumbs up

I wiped my prism, beamed apps and it works like a charmp.
At least, hotsynching does. I still have to press extremely
hard to write, but my replacement should be in soon.
THanks for the help guys.
btw: I decided to upgrade some apps along the way and
realized how many apps I was out of date on...
Glad I did it.
