Post MemPlug Memory Stick

I just saw on www.memplug.com that they are taking pre-orders for the MemPlug Memory Stick ($69.95). Maybe I have been living under a rock, but does anyone know much about this yet?

I know that they are releasing the Memplug Memory stick but do not know about the price. Wow, that is pretty expensive. The SmartMedia and CompactFlash is only $50 and this one is $20 more. Why can't they keep at the same price of $50? In reality, I am waiting for the SD/MMC Memplug. I heard that they might be coming out with the SD/MMC next month.

This is an assumption but I think the MemStick requires high liscence fees to use.. - this would be the cpeaest memstick reader/device I've seen...

Memplug.com has some geat pics and device info - it's totally flush like the CF module, but the memstick does stick out a little bit, since it is logner than a Springboard module. It draws the midlevel range of power, way less than CF, but way more than SM... It's black! It looks really cool... Now to get that nice sony DV device I wanted...

The production cost of MemPlug Memory Stick is much higher than the existing MemPlug's product. As we need to have a micro-controller and more components to convert the signal between springboard and memory stick. Not to mention the license fee of Memory Stick Technology, as we are the authorized manufacturer of Sony Memory Stick product for visor (to ensure compatible with other Memory Stick Products).

Thanks for asking.

What I mean is compatible with other product that read/write to memory stick. And we have tested our product to ensure this compatibility.

For other accessories, a device driver is possibly needed before it can be function.

Question ...failure to communicate...

PiDeveloper,

I think what dietrichbohn meant to ask was, does this mean the MemPlug MS reader will be compatible with other MS devices... Supposedly, Sony is working on MS Bluetooth, 802.11b, FM receiver, yada yada.. essentially their own Springboard line..

Will the MemPlug reader be able to accept these devices, as they are designed to work in the MemoryStick slot on the Cli... ?

(I need a new module so I can add modules....)

This is neat! Something to add to my Christmas wish list!
Actually the price doesn't surprise me. The other thing is have you looked at how much memory sticks cost!? I already have them because of my digital camera. But talk about expensive.

For me that would be a great accessory. I've got a Sony digital camera and a sony VAIO Slimtop PC = builtin memory stick drive.

Now where's that Christmas wish list?
