Thumbs up

There's an interesting quote from an industry analyst in this News.com article (http://news.cnet.com/news/0-1006-20....html?tag=mn_hd) about Palm's new models as they relate to the Edge:

quote:
"Palm was pressured into announcing its m500/5 product line before it was ready to ship because of Handspring's launch of the Visor Edge, a product aimed squarely at the Vx, Palm's best selling product," wrote Vik Mehta, an analyst at Goldman Sachs. "Palm counter-attacked by announcing the m500/5 and lowering the price point of the Vx to make way for the m500/5, even though the m500/5 will not be available until the end of the quarter. Had Handspring not launched the Visor Edge, it is possible that Palm may have maintained the Vx price and pushed back the m500/5 announcement until it was ready to ship," he said.

Makes you think...

Arrow Wouldn't be surprise

I would not be surprised if Handspring released its answer to the Palm M505 about the same time Palm's units are finally available. I also wouldn't be surprised if Handspring up the ante like they did the Visor Prism vs Palm IIIC last year.

My guess is that when the m505 actually ships, Handspring will drop the Prism's price to $369.

Question I'd pay...

I'd pay an extra $25 right now if they dropped the cheap finger paint on the prism case and buttons and fixed the jamming stylus slot.

I love competetion, and I love reading the boards and watching the writers fight for editorials and exposure on top news sites... but when it comes to releasing products before their fabricated or before they've had due time to be beta tested, we will ultimately pay the price. Innovation is more opinion than fact, and most people on this board seem to want Handspring to spit out a color edge just to win some sort of race. In the end the better thought out product will win, not the one with the most bells and whistles, or the one with technology that hasn't really even had a chance to bloom yet. I would personally like Handspring to watch and see how the m505 does, what the buzz is about liked/hated features, and then go to work.
